Touchpad a leap keys?

You know how a bunch of laptops have a touchpad practically beneath the thumbs? Well, that's right where the LEAP keys would be. Since a Cat doesn't have a mouse, why not repurpose the left and right sides of the touchpad as LEAP keys?  Which brings me around to asking if there is a way to run the Cat software on a modern machine? Does Canon still care about their copyright? Can we get them to make a public domain dedication of them? Or if they won't, is there a freely copyable reimplementation of the Cat software?
