I'm running 10.5.8/Safari 5.06 and installed the latest version of
popsearch.

I didn't quite get how to use it, so I uninstalled it and reinstalled
it and now when I click the button or use the hotkey, "nothing
happens" (actually there's a slight flash and my activity window shows
that something related to popsearch is trying to happen*, but I can't
see the popsearch bar).

*if on the "google maps" page activity window says
Google Maps
http://maps.google.com/
http://maps.google.com/mapfiles/home3.html
safari-extension://com.canisbos.popsearch-ZANVZTSER6/4107985a/
popsearch.html
safari-extension://com.canisbos.popsearch-ZANVZTSER6/4107985a/
popsearch.html
safari-extension://com.canisbos.popsearch-ZANVZTSER6/4107985a/
popsearch.js
(in other words, the popsearch extension is being listed as a
component of the google maps page)

I created a new user and found that I could install popsearch and have
it work properly at least once but if I uninstalled and reinstalled
it, "nothing happens" when I clicked the button.

In the new user I trashed the safari cache and the ~/library/Safari/
extensions folder and the main Safari preferences, but I still
couldn't get popsearch to work.

I reinstalled Safari, but no luck.

This looks like a good utility, would love to get it to work.

Hi hm,

There is something wrong going on here. Until I figure it out, you might be able to work around the issue by uninstalling PopSearch, deleting its local database, and then reinstalling PopSearch. The local database can be found in ~/Library/Safari/LocalStorage, with the filename:

safari-extension_com.canisbos.popsearch-zanvztser6_0.localstorage

Please let me know if that doesn't work.

Thank you for the fast response. Deleting the local database allowed
me to reinstall Popsearch, but I ran into a problem mentioned
somewhere else on the net, also from a Leopard user IIRC (MacUpdate
maybe?) which is that after the first use, the bar migrates to the top
left and you can't enter anything in the search box. In order to get
Popsearch to work, you have to restart Safari. As a possible
workaround, perhaps you could post an older version that was known to
work with Leopard?

Hi,

Version 1.6.7 should work for you. You can get it from:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/23990/Canisbos/PopSearch/backup/PopSearch167.safariextz

You'll need to uninstall PopSearch first, as Safari won't let you downgrade to a lower version.

I wish I could debug this problem you and the other user encountered, but I don't know how to duplicate it.

Unfortunately, I still have the bar migrating to the top left problem
with version 1.6.7. Maybe it's the combo of Safari 5 + Leopard.

Hi,

I've updated PopSearch to 1.8.3, which I think fixes the problem you're having. Please let me know if it doesn't.

Regards,
Chul
