When you say it disappears, do you mean that it is there when you first start CA and then after some time it is no longer there? You are running Ice Cream Sandwich, right?

If you don't mind, I would like to suggest a solution. A gesture to
bring up the menu, just like 's' will bring up the keyboard.

I actually mean that it never appears :p So I cannot change diskette,
save or restore.

Yes, it is ICS.

I can add another gesture but that doesn't fix the other problem.  So do the three little dots at the bottom (with home, back, etc.) even show up when CA is running?  Or do they show up but the menu never opens?  I have a Galaxy Nexus so I can picture what they look like, I just don't remember the 'android' name for the menu button now.

I haven't had this problem with my Galaxy Tab 2 ICS device, at least that I've noticed yet.

The three little dots do not appear... That's why I suggest a gesture...

Whaaa? I'll have to head over to Best Buy / Future Shop to try out
some of the new HTC devices. I hope they haven't messed with ICS or
something. I can't even imagine why the three little dots don't show
up. Thanks for the heads up. I'll be looking into it. And I'll look
at adding a gesture for the menu as well...

I would like to see an actual Apple 2 keyboard layout for tablets...

Hi Garnet,

I know there are many things happening in a developer's life, but, I
would like to politely ask - any progress?

Thanks!

Sorry, it is soccer season. :-) I took some time to read up on the slightly different way that the HTC one phones are handling menu buttons.  This shouldn't be preventing the menu from being accessed however.  It should just look odd with a lot of the HTC screen real estate burned up for a single menu button.  I have yet to travel to best buy to see first hand the result.  I'll try to fit that in this week.  If I can not figure it out I may just take your suggestion of adding a new gesture to get the menu open.

I did some reading on this and it is hard to find other other cases of this happening with the one v.  Most peoples complaints are more related to what seems to be confusion over when the menu button should appear.  I found the one v in future shop but it was a solid plastic dummy model so I couldn't try it.  I wanted to try holding down the recent apps button which some users said made the menu button appear.  I assume you've already tried this.  There were a few other apps mentioned that have similar problems for at least one user.
I'll check the bell phone store as well as they sometimes have other working models to play with and also have wifi to download apps.

This issue kept bugging me so I did yet more research on it. I found
that the same 'issue' exists for users of NewsRob (excellent rss
reader by the way).

"However, the HTC One V, with its smaller screen, uses a different (and
potentially confusing) solution. On the One V, to access menu
functions in pre-ICS apps, you must *PRESS AND HOLD* the app switch
button (the right most button with the two overlapping square) and
then it acts as a menu button. The first time you launch such a
program, the phone will explain this to you with an easily overlooked
dialog, and then not again. If you missed it, you will be very
confused by how to access menu functions in non-ICS aware programs."

Does this method work for you to access the menu button on the HTC One V?

Mystery solved.  That will probably help you out on a lot of other apps as well.  Cheers.  :-)
