Hi everyone,

Its been a few hectic months over here and we haven't had the chance to meet everyone yet, the boys are growing fast and keep us very entertained and exhausted LOL

Are there any meet ups happening soon? Both boys have had all their shots completed and we've been socialising them as best we can but I do think a play date in the park is just what they need.

Also what is everyone feeding their Dachshunds? I'm finding it hard to get weight on Jesse at the moment, both boys refuse to eat canned food no matter what it is, which is ok by me but I am worried they aren't getting enough of what they need. I feed raw and also veggies little bit of fruit, raw chicken necks and wings, mince (chicken and beef, have just tried them on some kangaroo) They also get cooked chicken with some veggies. Am I missing anything??

Looking forward to meeting you all and your beautiful babies.

Leslie and Peter xx

How old are they? Toby gets slices of lamb neck (you can get them at most butchers and they should slice them into pieces for you if you ask), and he loves them, keeps him occupied chewing for a bit.
Otherwise they seem to have a mixed diet, shouldn't be missing out on anything.

Emma

Thanks Emma, jesse seems so uninterested in food unless it's chicken necks/wings or chews. He demolishes them in moments and Walter takes forever to eat his which causes no end of strife LOL I'll ask for some lamb neck thank you.

As with children, they will not starve themselves to death. They are training you at the moment.  I think I was listening to Dr Aspinall on the radio a little while ago.  He had a client whose dog would only eat roast chicken.  This had developed over time.  The dog initially refused dog food so she gave it left overs and so on and so on.  It is up to you what the dogs eat, not them J

Cute pups.

I feed my two sausages a basis of Pro Plan dry food with about 1/3 dessert spoon of Advance tinned food.  Both are top shelf dog foods.  The wet food is simply to give a bit of texture variety for them. They enjoy their meal but eat with decorum.  When they are finished they swap bowls and lick out any residue. I think both of my sausages look in good condition and their teeth are free from tartar.

It's not that Jesse doesn't like food, he is just so energetic always running, jumping, hopping and barely sits still long enough to look at it, and as far as they won't starve themselves yes I agree and have not been to bothered except he drops weight fast and having to look at him with his ribs sticking out drastically did not fill me with joy LOL I was just hoping there might be some tips as to what people feed their dogs or find works well. The only thing I have had no success with them eating and have tried pretty much every one is the canned stuff. Jesse is my devil pup that's for sure LOL am thinking he needs to go into agility/flyball with his energy hahaha

Hi Leslie,

Do you think Jesse is a grazer rather than gorger?  I have one of each. I have a bowl of the science diet biscuits available and Harry who is a reluctant eater (other than chicken wings and beef soup bones) and he will help himself to the small biscuits, he loved the puppy ones and when I put him on the 1+ year ones he was not as fussed, and they are highly nutritious.  I also found that putting a small sardine broken up (draining off the oil) in the bowl  next to their fresh meat (I get the kangaroo) and a little grated cheese on top, Harry is more interested in eating.  Bella eats everything and anything, anytime, anywhere but she gets the same food and they are healthy and happy.  Bella does not gorge on the biscuits so I can leave them in a bowl for whenever Harry is interested.

Regards

Janice

You might be right Janice, he tends to nibble then run LOL I have their dry food out also as they only nibble it once in a while, I'll try the sardine trick with him and see how he goes. Sounds like we have a matching pair LOL
