Candidate Evaluations: Remember In November!

NO 'DEALS' FOR CANDIDATE RATINGS

GRNC's "Remember in November" project evaluates all North Carolina
candidates for state and federal office during general elections. GRNC
does not endorse candidates, but rather it employs a highly effective
evaluation method based on voting records (when available), candidate
surveys and bill sponsorship. Unlike some other organizations - such
as NRA - GRNC does not issue ratings to curry favor with those most
likely to be elected, nor do we make "deals" to inflate a candidate's
rating. A candidate gets what he or she EARNS, no more, no less.

USING GRNC EVALUTIONS

In "Remember in November," GRNC candidate evaluations are made on a 0
to 4 star system in which:

* 4-star (****) candidates can be expected to agree with gun voters
at least 90% of the time;

* 3-star (***) candidates can be expected to agree with gun voters at
least 80% of the time;

* 2-star (**) candidates can be expected to agree with gun voters at
least 70% of the time;

* 1-star (*) candidates can be expected to agree with gun voters at
least 60% of the time; and

* 0-star (0) candidates can be expected to agree with gun voters less
than 60% of the time.

They can run, but they can't hide:

Candidates who lack voting records on gun issues, and who fail to
return our candidate survey are automatically awarded a 0-star
evaluation on the presumption that they don't want you to know where
they stand on the right to keep and bear arms.

Listing format:

Each listing contains the candidate's name, political party and
district, survey score ("NR" if survey not returned), % of time
candidate voted pro-gun, "other factors" (e.g. bill sponsorship or
party leadership in allowing or denying hearings for certain
legislation, and finally GRNC evaluation star evaluation.

Examples:

Name Par/Dis Survey Vote Other Eval

Legislator, J R-7 95 100 90 ****

Hubris, S D-6 NR 40 0 0

This indicates that Joe Legislator, a Republican from District 7
voted pro-gun 95% of the time, returned a perfect 100% survey,
supported gun owners in other actions 90% of the time, and earned
GRNC's highest 4-star evaluation.

On the other hand, Stan Hubris, a Democrat in District 6; didn't
return GRNC's survey; voted pro-gun only 40% of the time; and as
reflected in "other," either sponsored or supported anti-gun
legislation; therefore earning only GRNC's lowest 0-star evaluation.
