EDMONTON - An Edmonton police constable is facing one charge under the
Firearms Act for allegedly storing his service gun improperly at a community
facility. Const. Sam Najmeddine, a 10-year member of the force, is charged
with one count of improper storage of a firearm. Najmeddine allegedly stored
his service pistol improperly at a police facility shared with a "community
partner" between September 2011 and September 2012, police said Friday in a
news release. Police would not say who shares that facility. "We will not be
giving out the specifics about the community partner," police spokeswoman
Noreen Remtulla said. Najmeddine remains on active patrol duty. He is
scheduled to make his next court appearance on May 30. An internal police
disciplinary hearing into the matter would likely be held following the
conclusion of Najmeddine's court case, Remtulla said.
