Navy SEALs have secretly captured one of the most wanted terrorists in
Iraq - the alleged mastermind of the murder and mutilation of four
Blackwater USA security guards in Fallujah in 2004. And three of the SEALs
who captured him are now facing criminal charges, sources told FoxNews.com.
The three, all members of the Navy's elite commando unit, have refused
non-judicial punishment - called an admiral's mast - and have requested a
trial by court-martial.
Ahmed Hashim Abed, whom the military code-named "Objective Amber," told
investigators he was punched by his captors - and he had the bloody lip to
prove it.

If they disobeyed their orders and exceeded the Geneva Conventions by
administering a little undisciplined freelance "punishment" while
escorting a handcuffed prisoner to brig, (and ultimately to court
hearings and possible judicially-ordered execution) then they have
dishonoured their uniforms.
When Allied troops are abused by sadistic guards we call it

I am neither defending Islamic terror nor defending this particular
terrorist, and I applaud and admire the Seals courage an ingenuity in
capturing this guy.
If the seals had to punch the guy in the face in as part of subduing
him for capture -- tough luck for him.
However, if the seals violated the Uniform Military Code and treaties
signed by the US President and ratified by the US CVongress with a
little gratuitious violence once hwe was captured and subdued, how
does this in any way make the west safer from terrorism.
George Washington forbade torture against captured British because
torture would "dishonour the new country."
Allied intelligence in WWII forbade torture of captured German
officers because they found it much more effective to play chess,
share ciogarettes and avoid offending them. This wasn't because they
liked Nazis, it was because the best way to pry info was with
psychological tricks, not torture.
The interegator who broke the Jihadist who gave up Abu Musab al
Zarqawi (sp) (the now-dead founder of al Quaeda in Iraq) got his
breaktrhough by offering the prisoner sugar-free cookies when he found
out he was diabetic. He also apologized to the prisoner (who joined
the terrorists when innocent family members were killed by collatoral
damage) for the unintended killing of Iraqi civilians caught in the
crossfire.
As a result of the interrogator's kindness the prisoner flipped,
telling him "Your kindness and your humanity have shocked me bacause I
was told by al Quada that all Americans were sadistic and not capable
of respecting Muslims. I am so shocked at the magnitude of their lie,
that I am now questioning everything they have said to me, and
questioning whether violence is the right response to the occupation
of Iraq." From there, the prisoner went on to betray his al Quaeda
boss by giving up the address of the safe house where Zarqawi met his
death by American bombs and missiles. The interrogator's name is
Matthew Alexander ond his book is "How to break a terrorist."

During WWII, the US policy towards POWs was interestingly liberal.
Among other things, whatever climate they were picked up in, they were
imprisoned in. American POWs in North Africa went to camps in the US
southwest for example. I read a piece by a German pow who eventually
emigrated to the US. He said the ocean voyage seemed long but the
land trip from New York to Minnesota seemed longer. He was astonished
at how enormous the US was and even more so when, upon looking at a
map, he discovered he'd only traveled half way across the country. Any
thought of escape quickly left his mind.
We must have treated our POWs pretty good for them to emigrate here
after the war.
Why treat our 21st century POWs any differently?

they're criminal suspects, they have different rights, including the
