How about more oversight and accountability for police?

warrantless ID grabbing from your ISP? Police lie their faces off routinely,
and if not for evidence supplied by private citizens they would get away
with it routinely. Why? Because they only ever have to worry about being
investigated by themselves. When they occassionally fail to cover up their
crimes they also have the bottomless pockets of you, the taxpayer, to pay
their legal costs.
Instead of politicians grabbing new powers for police, how about first
making sure police are accountable to the people?
Write your Conservative MP and tell them to fuck off with new police powers
until they are properly accountable for the ones they have.

The last thing police want is to be constrained by rule of law. Give
them arbitrary powers and voila - police state. Even the judges these
