Now lets try to be a bit objective here and not exaggerate....

We will start with the media, and later do individuals

Place the following media or commentators on the scale:

1 = Far Right, 2=Right, 3=centre right, 4=true centre, 5=centre left,
6=centre left & 7=far
left

Jim , I thought you posted that #7was the limit being "far left."
I read these papers daily and think that I can be quite objective and I
simply couldn't rate them as "true center(#4) or even center left (#5).
Just my opinion.
However, if you consider the Liberals to be left of center and since, for
the most part, we have granted them the divine right to rule, then its
logical that most papers must lean that way. It is the ruling party that
sets all the rules, imposes the taxes , advertises, etc. If Conrad had
supported the Liberals, do you have any doubt that he have his peerage or
whatever? Just a small example of what a vindictive government can do.

Here is the old Cape Breton socialist at work. I think Neil is trying to
insult me with this old Liberal technique, often used as well by the
newsmedia to silent dissenting opinions. If he really wanted to insult me he
could have called me a left wing poster, then I'd been embarrassed to face
my kids. They say all young people start out as Liberal but as they get
older and wiser, they come to see the error of their ways. Some just get
older and no wiser, such as Neil here. Liberals manage to stay in power by
appealing to human weaknesses, while conservatism plays to their strengths,
often there are more weaknesses than strengths.

Its next to impossible to have a
rational argument with a socialist without him getting personal if he
doesn't agree with your politics. The Liberals are experts at that as
you must remember the Rat Pack and I understand they have a Dirty Tricks
Team in place for the next election... Chretien is desperate to win.

Only a socialist could rate the HH as a #3. The left wing daily referred to
above was probably the Communist Daily Bugle published up to '49, when
Stalin went out of favor....must have broken Neil's heart.

Have a good day,

Len I don't consider referring to some one as a conservative or a
far right conservative as an attack. In the same way you call me a left
winger or a socialist is not seen as an insult.
These labels are convenient devices to indicate where a person's
basic view is. I have many articulate, caring friends who call
themselves conservative. Why I have some articulate, caring
acquaintances on this NG who refer to themselves as conservative, I've
listed some of them in previous posts.
Regarding the cite from me quoted on top.
I don't think it is particularly humourous to say "Alert that was funny"
which is what a smily face means to me - usually. But if it helps, you
can put one after that statement. I was merely asking if you and Len
McLennan WERE the same person.
I'm sorry if you took my disagreement with you as an "attack" of any
type.
BTW the last left wing daily paper here was the Glace Bay Gazette, a
paper owned by a co-op of unions. It worked quite well until it became
a place for union bosses to employ friends and relatives. Nothing ever
really changes eh.
