Not much of anything. Baically in a nut shell they are the Chiefs and Petty
Officer Engineers who have either a Cert 3 or Cert 4 marine qualification
for the operation of the ship's propulsion plant. The 314 is fed from the
313 trade which in turn is fed from the 312 trade. The trade badge is they
typical marine engineer propeller but with a small A in the center.
Sounds like a same-sex marriage! (aaaawwww come on...smile!)

Ok boys/gals, thanks, hadda wait till my mirth subsided here.
So, basically, he does what a 'Second Engineer' on civilian ships
does?, operates the engines?...

Call me silly...but, why wouldn't he be called the Engine Operator???
Ken
Perhaps because, like a Flight Engineer, he, besides operating
the engines, has other duties as well?...just guessing here, I
wouldn't know a ship from a boat actually. :)
I had a navy guy (I thinik they call them sailors) tell me a boat was anything
could could be carried on a ship. Given the size of the Nimitz Class, that
would been the Canadian navy has no ships....
He had no answer for that musing.
Ken
Artifices Marines?
Sorry, had to be done.

That would be a bit like calling an infanteer a rifle operator.
Neill McKay
yes and the "boat-people" call submarines...not ships..but boats!!

Presumably a sub would fit on a Nimitz Class too
Ken

Damn hard to get up onto the flight deck, though.
Neill McKay
But not impossible. What would we call it then.. a supermarine?
(Perhaps an artificermarine)

Actually, they did bring HMCS Bras d'Or to Halifax on the flight deck of
HMCS Bonaventure... but then, Bras d'Or could fly!
Neill McKay
Indeed.
