Can anyone tell me what a Marine Artificer does? (MOC 314). Just
a basic rundown.

Not much of anything. Baically in a nut shell they are the Chiefs and Petty
Officer Engineers who have either a Cert 3 or Cert 4 marine qualification
for the operation of the ship's propulsion plant. The 314 is fed from the
313 trade which in turn is fed from the 312 trade. The trade badge is they
typical marine engineer propeller but with a small A in the center.

That's my old trade. I was originally a 312 mech, then to 313 tech after the
TQ 5. Never made it to 314. They were guys with a cert 4 ticket. In my days,
they had the engine room ticket and were in charge of a engineering watch at
sea. I was a water tender and boiler operator on the steamers.

I had a navy guy (I thinik they call them sailors) tell me a boat was anything
could could be carried on a ship. Given the size of the Nimitz Class, that
would been the Canadian navy has no ships....

He had no answer for that musing.

That would be a bit like calling an infanteer a rifle operator.

Presumably a sub would fit on a Nimitz Class too

Actually, they did bring HMCS Bras d'Or to Halifax on the flight deck of
HMCS Bonaventure... but then, Bras d'Or could fly!
