Hi guys,

Sorry if this is a bit out of the groups scope. Apparently RMS is
going to be in the UK and has not much to do, so he's looking for
talking opportunities. I don't know if he's planning to charge for it,
but it could be a nice way to raise awareness about the group.

Read more about it here:

Cheers,
David

I was reading his notes on how to treat him if he's visiting, just
today (can't remember what that was linked from - indeed, it must have
been down-thread from the link you give -
https://secure.mysociety.org/admin/lists/pipermail/developers-public/2011-October/007647.html).
Given his remarks on what sort of event he wants to talk to, I don't
think CamPUG itself would be appropriate to ask him to come (I doubt
he'd approve of Pythons license not being GPL, for a start). And I'm
not sure I'd like him, so I'd not offer him a place to stay.

I think he did speak in Cambridge relatively recently, though (hmm,
first few months of this year, thinking on it).

Hah, he does have a... way of saying things, to put it mildly. I'm not
much of a fan.

That said, it was more of a heads up to the individuals in the list
than CamPUG itself. They might see wheat were we only see chaff :)

I saw him talk at the CODE conference at a Cambridge college many years
ago. His own talk was interesting and inspiring, but then later a young
lawyer took the stage to explain how current UK law worked with respect
to copyright, free software etc. - and RMS stood up and started ranting
at the guy - as if the lawyer was personally responsible for the law. It
was embarassing and rude. Afterwards, walking past RMS surrounded by a
group of fawning admirers, I decided I didn't want to see him talk ever
again.
