It's blazing hot in NC this summer. Hope everyone is doing well. My
son left early for college so I've officially been an empty-nester for
a about 6 weeks but I went climbing at an indoor gym w/ him yesterday
and had a great time. He's really getting into climbing and headed for
his first outdoor climb next week :-). Of course, he struggled w/
calculus & that was a challenge for me. Learning to support him from
afar is tough for a hand's on Mama. That challege is going to get
even harder b/c my husband got orders to Shrevport, LA so we'll be
moving sometime in November. A totally new chapter starting in my
life due to both of these things but I'm up for the adventure.

Check in everyone - what are you up to this summer? Slash, is that
baby walking all over the place? Bama, baby update??

Congrats Psych! Wishing you a long and happy marriage

I've seen Caribou's photos on FB where she's been traveling all around
some really lovely places.

Clover - what's up in TN.

Thinking of you all.

Love, MILF

My peeps!!!!!!

Brilliant! I have been thinking for the past week that we really need
to catch up and find out what the troops are up to. I've been enjoying
hanging out with my very active son. He'll be one in a couple of
weeks. Not walking yet but crawls faster than me and can climb
anything and everything - slides, ladders, stairs, anything. He
doesn't make a great gardening partner as he likes to eat rocks. We
ended up half giving up on our gardens because we couldn't keep up
with the watering with the ridiculous weather we have had this summer.
Kale - how is your business going? Is it as dry in California as the
rest of the country? We do have a heck of a pumpkin/squash garden
going.

Oh, and my partner spent the weekend building a zip line (200 ft long)
through the trees at our house. So fun!! Wellington is going to have
the coolest walk to the bus ever!

I don't want to be that person that makes people look through pictures
of my kid, but if you want, here is a link to pictures and a video.
Since his other family lives in Australia, I have to have a way to
keep them in the loop. I also attached a few pictures of his mango
eating escapades when we travelled down to Dominica in April to watch
the Australian Cricket team tour the west indies. Didn't even know
Dominica existed until I went there.

Bama - would love some pictures!!!

Heck, I would love updated pictures from everyone!!

Has anyone heard from Sprouts lately?

Psych - I don't do facebook but I trust your pictures are lovely!

Thanks for catching us up Milf. You're such a good mom!!

LoCascio, Beth

Beth Ann LoCascio, age 30, went to be with her Heavenly Father, on Wednesday, Aug. 17, after a two year battle with cancer. She was born to Craig and Carol (Corcoran) LoCascio on Dec. 25, 1980, in Green Bay. She was a graduate of West High School '99, and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.Beth enjoyed ballroom dancing, biking, kayaking, camping, international travel, and above all lived for her family and friends. She loved singing and performing in musicals and theatre productions, mainly at St. Norbert College and UWGB. Throughout her life she discovered the importance of natural nutrition and way of life, and its impact on physical and mental health. She passionately embraced these ideas and strived to share her knowledge.Beth continuously sought to know more of Jesus and was a student of her religion. She enjoyed discussions with her friends and family about God, peace, love and everlasting life. Her gentle spirit and warm heart touched everyone with whom she came in contact. Beth taught us patience, humility and to appreciate and respect the important things in life. She will "sing happy" in our hearts forever! She is survived by the love of her life, her fiance, Vladimir Wojnar, her sister and brother-in-law, Nicole and Jason Jacobs, their children Hannah (goddaughter) and Caleb, and many aunts, uncles and cousins whom she loved so much. She was preceded in death by her parents Craig and Carol (Corcoran) LoCascio; grandparents Raymond and Margaret Corcoran and Salvatore and Betty LoCascio. The family would especially like to thank Dr. Dan Koster as well as the doctors and caring staffs of Bellin Hospital & Cancer Team, Heartland Hospice, and Home Instead Senior Care. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 20, at Lyndahl Funeral Home. The family will welcome visitors from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and a Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. To send online condolences to the family, please go to www.lyndahl.com.In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Beth's name for "Families of Children with Cancer" (www.focwc.org), which is a 100% volunteer organization with all donations benefiting families dealing with childhood cancer in our area.

No kidding.... I thought I was doing an innocent search and found her obituary - totally was not expecting that.

How does our group go from being what I feel is very close to losing one member after another, after another? Is there a First Descents Camp that focuses on how to deal with losing FD members to the dreaded disease that brought us all together in the first place?!?!?  We were all together in 2010 but I swear it only seems like yesterday. Keeping up with most everyone via Facebook helps I guess. If only we were all sitting atop Castle Rock again....

Hugs to FD53,

Clover

Hey everyone!

I've enjoyed keeping up with everyone on Facebook.  The news about Sprouts is so hard to read and accept.    Attached are some pics of our little one.   He is now 4 months and being a dad is a fantastic experience.   My wife and I have been bringing Revio to the climbing gym to get him inspired (and so mom and dad can get some exercise).

Best to everyone,

So good to see some pics of new life and those super cute babies and
hear good reports. Makes the bad news about Sprouts a little more
bearable.

Hello Everyone!! I had no idea that I was missing *pictures* by reading the group digest instead of the posts themselves, so I only just now saw the amazingadorableincredibleprecious pictures of Babies Wellington and Revio! ('LOVE the dual expressions in 2_adam.jpg, Bama)
Speaking of pictures... I don't have my wedding photos from the photographer yet, but when I do I'll be sure to send some along. In the meantime, I'll attach one the photographer posted on his FB page. My husband Shane (oh, that's fun to type!) and I got married last Saturday in Chicago aboard 'The Odyssey,' a yacht docked at Navy Pier.  We're going on an Alaskan honeymoon in September... three nights in a cabin just south of Fairbanks, followed by a cruise from Anchorage to Vancouver, BC. I have lots of hiking and zip-lining excursions planned for the various port cities, and every time I think of the wilderness treks, I have in my mind a photograph of Sprouts and I from the day we all took that hike through the National Park (remember the rutting stags and does we saw along the drive??)
I miss you all and think of you often.
Lots of Love,
Psych

Hi Friends!!

MILF - can't believe you are an empty nester:) Goodness how time flies.Good luck on the upcoming move - you'll be more than up to the task.

My summer has been pretty good - fairly uneventful minus a kypophlasty procedure to correct a compression fracture and associated painful, painful healing. Of course, some of that could...gas...just be related to getting older, right?? :)

We have taken a lot of little trips here and there, which is nice to break up the monotony - to see the Blue Man Group in Orlando for Cory's birthday. In a couple weeks we are headed to Green Bay for the home opener game between the Packers (our best friend's team) and the 49ers (Cory's team!). That will be a lot of fun. Then in about a month after that I am headed to a metastatic breast cancer conference in Chicago (Psych, maybe we can get together!) and will take a detour over to the Warren Dunes in Michigan, where I vacationed as a little kid with my grandparents for literally like 16 years. I am also doing a lot of volunteer work with my church and through the local legal aid society - which I love. It helps me adjust to my, ah, untimely "retirement."

If you all recall, I was just let out of the hospital about a year ago - after being in for 22 days, on life support for 8 days, totally debilitated, unable to walk, 30 lbs down, unable to keep food down, unable to drive...what a time. Miracles do happen and I am so thankful each and every day.

Clover, it does seem that our little slice of 53 has been hurt particularly grievously. I am so sorry to hear about Sprouts - what a gentle soul.

Bama and Slash, the pics are awesome.

Keep em coming. Think about you all and that one, perfect, week, so often.

Bou,

Still can't believe it was a year ago that you were in there and
Cory's FB posts were looking worse and worse. I think of that often
when I see you current pics of travel, dinners, etc. So uplifting! I
know you are struggling w/ the steroid side effects -hang in there!

Thanks, Milf:) Cory's FB posts were certainly increasingly...dastardly:) Did find out I had a very small amount of growth in one of my existing brain spots today - Dr. Berk just called me a miracle, said he could fix me in his sleep....so I'm going to try and do my best and adopt his attitude of onward and upward, but dang if it isn't hard, friends.
