April 10th Meeting Announcement

Hello All,
I am pleased to announce the seventh meeting of the Cambridge Entomological Club's 2011-2012 calendar. Please join us at 7:30 pm on April 10th, 2012 in MCZ 101 for the club's 1141st meeting. You are also welcome to join us for an informal dinner meeting at the Cambridge Common restaurant at 1667 Massachusetts Avenue between Porter and Harvard Squares in Cambridge. We are moving our dinner to the restaurant due to reduced dinner service at the Caspersen Student Center. Club members should begin to arrive at Cambridge Common around 6:00 and we will walk over to the MCZ about 20 minutes before the meeting. There is an announcement poster attached to this message on the Google groups page.
Frances Chew, Professor of Biology at Tufts University, will be giving a talk titled:
"Consequences of multiple species invasions: a native butterfly confronts exotic plants and parasitoids"
Exotic invasive species pose challenges to native species encountering them for the first time. In the 1800s, the native mustard white butterfly flew in Harvard Yard. Since then it has been affected by serial invasions of garlic mustard, parasitoid biological control agents for the related cabbage white butterfly, and other exotic plant species. Despite its current threatened status in Massachusetts, the ecological stage is now set for recovery and population growth of this butterfly – an unintended consequence of recent species introductions.
