On the whole, I was impressed. The building is nice and spacious
inside (it seems to have Tardis-like geometry) and is nicely
decorated. There's a bar area where you can go before the film (looks
out over Regent Street, so you can watch the World go by, although you
do need to be a ticket holder to use it). The bar has some rather nice
imported European stuff on tap, but if you want Real Ale you have to
go for bottle conditioned stuff (they do have the rather scrummy Black
Sheep though). The staff seem quite friendly and the selection of
films looks pretty good.
They have 3 screens. The one we were in was quite small (although no
smaller than the ones at GC). The main one looked huge from the
glimpse I saw through the doors and I didn't see the other one. The
seats in the cinema we were in were *extremely* comfortable and the
leg-room isn't too bad.
Anyway, I shall definitely be going again.

How do you find out 'whats on - when' aside from ringing up every time
you fancy a night out at the flicks? Do they have a web site?

It is alleged that, to use the bar, you have to be either a ticket
holder
or a "member" (it costs about 15 pounds to join, rising to 18 next year,
but you get 2 free films and 50p off each film). But I haven't (yet)
seen any sign that this restriction is enforced.

The main one is quite large, especially when meaured in terms
of solid angle of view (even from the back row). "Apocalypse Now"
in there was a definitely different experience from the same film
at the Arts Cinema.

Me too.

If you join, you get the week's films emailed to you at the start
of each week. The films shown each week are supposed to be listed
in the national newspapers that carry that sort of information.

Even has online ticket reservation, although I don't think this quite
works yet as I tried it and ended up having to make a few phone calls
to them.

which is a great example of how not to write a Web site:
> Fetch frame: main
>
> Fetch frame: bottom
Selecting 'main' gives a page entitled "Clapham Picture House" (yes,
really):
> our logo
>
> Welcome to the Cambridge Arts Picture House
and 'bottom' gives us an untitled page:
> our What's OnTicket PricesReserve tickets on-lineJobs Mailing log
> Listfind usE-mail uslinks Home Page
Tabbing through these image links to "What's on" takes us to another
set of frames: 'left' with an untitled page[1] of listings, and
'right' with a page "Note" with this text:
> click on an underlined film for details of the film
This is a gem! Apart from being unable to construct a sentence with
a capital letter and full stop, I don't have any "underlined films"!
Even in the other buffer, displaying the listings, I have links
highlighted by colour as I prefer. And even if I did have my links
underlined, would I have got that far without knowing how to use
them?

(This is the URL you want if you just want to grab the timetables
and get out again - can we have this link on the Cambridge Web
Guide[2], please?)

(which is almost a model of how an information-rich site should be
presented with the minimum of fuss - thanks, Keith, for doing such
a good job. Improvement suggestions under separate cover)
