Ceremony to honor California's fallen heroes
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - A ceremony will be held Monday, May 25, at 2 p.m. at
the
Global War on Terrorism Wall of Honor in downtown Sacramento to honor
California's fallen Servicemembers.
A wreath will be laid at the wall to honor the more than 500 California
heroes who have died in combat operations since Sept. 11, 2001. "It is an
honor to pay tribute to the fine men and women who have made the ultimate
sacrifice for their state, nation and their communities," said Maj. Gen.
William H. Wade II, the California National Guard's adjutant general. "We
want their families to know their sacrifice was not made in vain, and they
will never be forgotten."
The Wall of Honor was dedicated on Sept. 11, 2006, by Gov. Arnold
Schwarzenegger at the California State Military Museum, located in the State
Historic Park.
The Military Museum is the state's official military history center and was
opened by Gov. Pete Wilson on Nov. 11, 1991. The museum documents the
state's
rich military history from the Spanish colonial period to current operations
across the world.
The media and public are invited to attend this event located at 1119 2nd
Street, Sacramento, CA 95814. For more information, please contact Mr. Dan
