Welcome all
CAIS/ACSI's 40th annual conference is upon us. In keeping with the
theme of this year's Congress for the Humanities and Social Sciences' Crossroads:
Scholarship for an Uncertain World, our conference co-chairs
created a complementary title for our event: Information in a Local
and Global Context. The emphasis on the global is auspicious given
the increasing number of conference participants traveling to CAIS/ASCI
from as far away as Australia, Singapore, Brazil, and Nigeria. We also
have international guests from France, Denmark, the U.K. and the U.S.
This year, the CAIS/ACSI conference has expanded its venues for
knowledge sharing and discovery through the introduction of 5 research
round tables, 2 panels, and a poster session. There are also a number
of social events planned.
We will have many opportunities over the three days to thank our
conference co-chairs: Anabel Quan-Haas, Victoria Rubin, and Debbie
Chaves, but I would like to start now with an expression of my
gratitude for all they have done. They have worked tirelessly and they
have raised the bar for future conferences with respect to all aspects
of conference planning from the call for abstracts through to the
selection and organization of sessions and even ensuring that we all
have plenty of nourishment along the way. Thank you Anabel, Victoria
and Debbie.
Two issues for your consideration:
(1) The Annual General Meeting is scheduled from 12 to 1:15 on Saturday
June 2 and all are welcome (lunch provided!). I am attaching the
agenda for the meeting. Please let me know if there are any items you
would like to see added to the agenda.
(2) Nominations for the position of President, Vice-President, and
Director of Communications are open. To-date, we have had nominations
for the position of President (Anabel Quan-Haas), and Vice-President
(Diane Rasmussen Neal). No name have been put forward for the position
of Director of Communications.
If you know of anyone who would like to run for any of these positions,
or you, yourself, have an interest, please let me know before the AGM.
Safe travels
Siobhan
