Hi all,

The spring update is released. The latest major feature is MyMemory online translation service implementation in the CT interface. Moreover, the update includes:

- Jumping over Perfect memory matches (see menu Edit | Jump over | Perfect memory matches)
- Enabled setting of another TM (for terminology) in the Project Manager panel.
- Improved statistics (see menu Project | Statistics)
- Changes to Microsoft Translator (Bing) MT online service to reflect Microsoft's recent changes to client authentication (required Client ID and Client Secret keys - see sign-up instructions here: http://www.linguisticproductions.com/mtenhancedmst/mstSignupInstructions.html)

The trial version is available for download. The CT users can contact me at the support e-mail address to receive update instructions soon.

Kind regards,
Igor

Hi Igor,

Thank you very much for this splendid update!

I've just tested it with a Transit TM. It shows me exactly the same process that I love so much from Transit (and that is also known from many other tools, where it is called 'Translate till fuzzy' etc.): CafeTran races through the project, auto-translating perfect matches. The translator can lean back and enjoy :).

Must update the KB on this topic.

Quite a procedure, but I managed to get it working. BTW: I had to manually insert my Client-ID, it wasn't automatically filled in after execution of step 1.

Good luck to all fellow CafeTran users with this new build. For those of you who own or receive a lot of TMs created with another CAT tool, the Jump over Perfect memory matches (in combination with the recently introduced TM option 'Processing tags') is a great time-saver. For me it will make full migration from Transit to CafeTran a step closer.

CafeTran's DOCX filter is very good: no rogue codes whatsoever. Besides this import is very fast. I like it. Thumbs up!

Hans

You're the best, Dominique ;).

Really looking forward for your screencasts on CafeTran ;).

Good thing: how longer you wait, how more mature the GUI becomes (ducking).

Hi
I followed almost all the steps but am stuck with the URL de redirection,
dunno what to write into there.
BTW, I couldn't do anything using Safari on the Mac, probably MS does not
allow acces to their sites using Safari. No problem using Firefox, though.

Best
Wolfgang

You can write anything here, e.g. http://www.cafetran.com ;).

Neither did I. Sorry that I didn't mention that.

I used Internet Explorer for that reason.

Hi Hans,
yes, I know I should write to the cafetra...@googlegroups.com, for
Knowledgbase purpose of course. Will do.
Can anyone help with the Redirection URL in the Application registration
form? I really have no clue what to write in there.
TIA
Wolfgang

Wolfgang,

You missed my point: you can add any real website there. I gave cafetran.com as an example ...

You can also use your own website.

Or, am I misunderstanding you here?

BT still works here for free, Igor. Should I upgrade?

I'll answer the question myself. After all, that's what all silly people do.

NO!

Thank Steve for Time Machine:

Just for good measure, GT (from the website):

BT and MyMem are identical, and arguably better than GT.

Hi Hans,
no I think you got me right, but as it says one should enter a https
address, I was wondering.
I finally managed to get it to work and am happy as a clam with CT.

Highly frustrating. Only days after I wrote a new "Flash Start." It's impossible to keep a blog up to date.

Hi CT addicts,
what I have not grasped yet is how to close a document once it is translated (close, I mean, not export) and how do I translate the next file in the same project without having to Exit CT and restart it again.
Many thanks in advance

Don't do anything, I suppose. Just save (all memories and project).

and how do I translate the next file in the same project without having to Exit CT and restart it again.

Add a Document under File if it's not there already, and/or "glue" the documents (File | Documents).

BTW, you can import all files of the same format of a folder by choosing the folder rather than a file. After the import, choose "Glue".

Thanks Hans, that’s what I actually did so far (the “glue documents” excepted).
Another question: What does “Save” do? Save only the file or the file+memories? Or else, is there a shortcut for saving everything in one go?

Best
Wolfgang

The project file, methinks. What I do is Save (the project), and Memories | Save All Memories. I'm not sure is it's necessary, but it doesn't hurt, I'd say.

Hi Igor and all
As I'm synchronizing the script for a video, so character count in source
and target is very important for me.
I just noticed that apparently the character count is "tag sensitive", that
is, the amount of characters on the left of the tag is shown, not of the
whole sentence. Even more confusing when having one tag in the source target
and no tag in target:

Full double-deck <x id="18"/>airliner
Durchgehend doppelstöckiges Flugzeug
chars count: 17/36

When I set the tag in target:
Durchgehend doppelstöckiges <x id="18"/>Flugzeug
global character count becomes 8/8.

A bug or a feature? ;-)

Regards
Wolfgang

Hi Wolfgang,

You can close the document by choosing its tab and clicking the close icon (X) in the main toolbar.

In addition to what Hans v.d.B advised. You don't have to glue the documents, you may also select them individually for translation from the menu Project | Documents  without restarting the program. Just click a document name button after choosing  Project | Documents and this document will be set for translation.

Cheers,
Igor

Wolfgang,
It is a definitely feature (requested) designed so that the user can
compare the characters count between tags. If there are tags, it compares
the characters length of the respective source/target fragments at the
cursor position.

Hi
Personnally, I don't see the point in counting characters between tags as I
need the character count of the whole sentence for comparison with the
source length, but you must have your reasons for that.
Couldn't we have a global counter as well?
Wolfgang

The menu item Project | Save or the Save button in the toolbar saves both the project and all opened memories in one go.

Please contact me at the support e-mail address to handle it and determine the cause - change the location of the installation folder or hardware or perhaps my mistake when I sent you the update?
