Dear New England Golden Bears,

A very happy holiday season to us all!  CACNE has been wrapping up the year in style, with the Pac-10 Boston Toys for Tots Social and our first monthly Potluck Dinner Board Meeting held outside Boston, where we began planning an amazing 2008 for our New England Cal family and community.

This will likely be the last regular posting until the new year.  But don't worry, Tiny Tim, we can have one last taste ...

1. Celtics Game with Leon "The Show" Powe

The Boston Celtics are back this year, with Kevin Garnett and former Cal star Leon "The Show" Powe helping to lead the charge! CACNE will be taking a trip to cheer for The Show and see the boys in green (which is really just blue and gold together, isn't it?) take on the LA Clippers.

Last year CACNE caught the Celtics vs the Miami Heat and went nuts as Powe played 32 minutes, shut down Shaq, and notched his first career double-double.  We even got to meet Leon after the game!

When: Wednesday, February 6, 7:30pm.  Yes, that's a few months away, but we need to book now.  Plus, our ticket allotment is selling fast!
Where: TD Banknorth Garden
Cost: $35 ($30 for paid members)

Due to a limited number of tickets left for this already almost sold out season, and CACNE needing to pay up front for the block of seats, we're taking RSVPs at www.calnewengland.org/celtics.html.  The first 30 paid RSVPs get the seats, and we've already OVER 20 of them!

2. CACNE Online

Do you love CACNE so much that the week that passes between these emails seems interminably slow and nearly devoid of meaning?  Never fear my friend, you can always check out and join our various online homes:

3. CACNE Membership and Shirts

It's time to re-up on your CACNE Membership!  While most of our events are free, there are costs with keeping the club functioning, as well as fabulous benefits that you receive as an official CACNE Member:
  • Savings on: CACNE events that cost money, awesome new CACNE t-shirts, and more.  Already, you can have made your dues back in member savings on our events and gear!
  • Memberships help support the Cal New England scholarship that we award each year to a local high school graduate who will be attending Cal in the fall.  The benefit for you here is that you feel good about yourself!
  • Exclusive information about smaller, members-only events throughout the year.  Always be in the loop about fantastic Cal alumni opportunities in the area!
And how much would you guess such incredible benefits would cost you?  Brace yourself: only $15!

Please visit www.calnewengland.org/membership.html to renew your membership today.

4. Oski's Trivia Corner

The answer to last week's question, "Cape Cod can be a dangerous place to swim, but sometimes help can unexpectedly arrive if you're in trouble.  Name both the aquatic actress who once saved a drowning boy there, as well as the recent Berkeley honoree whose work she shares in a later film." is: Daryl Hannah from Splash, who apparently loves to work with Berkeley professors ... for the second part of the answer we accepted either David Gilbert and Gerald Tuskan, who recently did an award-winning documentary with her about "freedom fuels", or Robert Hass, 2007 National Book Award winner, who shared the screen with Ms. Hannah in Wildflowers.  Working with Daryl Hannah ... yet another reason to stay in school and get that PhD, kids.

Cheers for the right answer to Ying Huang!

No Trivia Corner this week ... even Oski needs his rest.  The December winner will be announced in the first CACNE email of the new year.

Take care and GO BEARS!
