I am writing to inquire if anyone has moved to or has investigated the
new broadband radar units?

We get the spin from the sales information. These start up faster,
use less power, have greater accuracy close in, are touted as easy to
use and are safer. All sounds so good, I might want one on my car!
Our interest is if anyone has used or trialed a unit. Which model?
Which display unit? Where was the display positioned?

The yard where we are getting our engine rebuilt and our nonskid done
keeps focusing on the Raymarine products. Since the mast is pulled to
get the boat in the paint shed, it seemed like a natural time to
consider this addition. I just don't know if I should only consider
the options offered by Raymarine. Don't get me wrong. This is a
supplier who has a wonderful reputation, but I don't want to pick a
product just because the yard is a dealer for that product.

We only have a starter battery and two house batteries aboard
supported by solar panel and engine power. Those are keeping us happy
with the use of radio, lights, windlass and refrigeration. Low DC
power demand from a radar will need to be high on the list of
performance capability. I don't see us sailing along with the Honda
generator on deck, keeping the batteries charged.

Any thoughts are welcome as I know there is far more expertise from
this group and they will not try to sell me something. :-)

with thanks,

Leslie

Thanks, Mickey. Yes I had read that but was looking to see if anyone
had put their toe in the pond for this new technology and hear from
their experience. Though there are good comments to this, I was
hopeul to discuss with soneone who has been using one maybe over the
summer. Just trying to learn what is "spin" and sales pitch and
reality. It was this article that kind of excited me about the
Broadband Radar. Thanks for sending it to me as this time a visited
the Bill Johnson site and learned a bit more.

Cheers,

Leslie
