Clay,
I doubt that the teak gratings were Costa Rica teak. I think that the external teak was slow growing imported teak. Costa Rican teak is fast growing and was used for the interior.

We are slowly going thrue our CR34 with over haul and refitting projects and one of our winter to-do's is the replacement of our teak anchor well grates. I'd love to replace 'em with Costa Rican Teak but have been advised there is an alternative teak that looks prettier and wear better. Will post pixs when finished.

you can also tell from the colour.  Far eastern and african teaks are both harder and more brown in colour (when varnished)  compared to the softer honey colour of costa rican teaks.

on my 38 the doors of wardrobe and heads are definitely not costa rican teak but everything else below is.  external gratings are also harder far east or african teaks.

I recall reading somewhere Cabo Rico uses Burmese teak plants grown in Costa Rica which gives the teak a golden color.
