For 10 years I have had a 3-blade, 17x10 Campbell Sailor prop on a 1.25" shaft with BW Velvet Drive coupled to the original Perkins 4-108. It does very well in all conditions including reverse and with the low profile in the water it has little resistance and motion while sailing. At 2500 RPM I'm at 6-7 kts. and there's more there when I need it for heavy seas and tides. When I bought the boat it was fitted with a 2-blade prop which I suspect was the original. I now carry IT as a spare. Hope this helps. You can reach these folks at West by North, Kel...@westbynorth.com

Chip, what's your max RPM under load? and where do you normally cruise?

I find it difficult to push past 2650 RPM without a newly clean bottom; and I cruise usually at 2200-2300 which I think that puts me roughly at 6.0 kts.

I can get close to 3500 rpm but with no meaningful increase in hull speed and 7 -7.5 seems to be my top end. I scrape the prop every 2 weeks and brush the hull once a month. We are in Rockport Texas just 35miles north of Corpus Christi. We usually are inside in Aransas Bay which is very large and it gives us a lot of bay cruising and with the entire barrier island along the Texas Coast we have plenty to expore with lots of protected anchorages. The Gulf can be messy on the outside. My bouy reports for two miles outside the Port Aransas jetty for Oct 14 is SSE -17-24; 6 sec, 5-9 ft so another week-end on the inside. We are 2 days from Galveston to the east and 2 days from Brownsville and South Padre Island to the west.
