Hi. On our CR 42, we have a plow anchor with 275 ft of chain on the
starboard side and a Bruce with 50 ft of chain and 270 ft of rode on
the port side. Our Muir Cheeta windlass has one gypsy on the
starboard side.

The chain locker is divided with the larger section to port which
causes the starboard anchor chain to spill over the port chain and
rode. Has anyone reconfigured the chain locker to acommodate more
chain on the starboard side?

The PO did add an additional board to stop the chain from spilling
against the access door.

Thanks,

Duane

I have a similar set up with a 60 CQR and a 45 Bruce. Most of the chain from the SB anchor runs down to the space forward of the tank under the forward berth. I had to enlarge the opening thru which the chain runs down to this lower level, or it would stack up. Now I only have to go below and help the chain going down into the lower level if I anchored on a very long scope.

I did add a soft plastic shield (a left-over piece of Isinglass) just inside the access door, to prevent the muddy chain from hitting the door.

Thanks Thierry. We will try enlarging that opening as well. I
appreciate your help.

When I ordered my boat from Cabo I ordered chain for my main anchor. Screwed up and got rope instead. I corrected the problem a year later and installed chain. Cabo spec'd 250' of chain. It came from a supplier in a 275' barrel. I installed it and found out why Cabo spec'd 250. 275 is too much for the anchor locker! It piles up and is a constant problem. Cut off 25 feet?
