Sharrows on Lytton Ave. in Palo Alto

Here is a photo showing the existing sharrows and signage on Lytton Ave in Palo Alto:

 

 

And here is how it could look if best practice placements and use of BMUFL signs were employed:

 

For comparison purposes, here is a similar Long Beach facility on a road with 17’ instead of 21’ lanes, so the effective lane is much narrower, only 6’ instead of 10’:

In all of the photos, the motorists seem to instinctively avoid the door zone and drive in the effective center of the lane.

Correct Michael,
We point this out, that motorists reflexively center themselves in the effective lane, in our classes to transportation professionals.  See these photos for more examples:
