Oh BS. The unemployment rate for those with a bachelor college degree is
less then 4%.

Depends on the degree:

Also, what is the ROI? Just being employed doesn't mean that degree is
helping you any - a lot of people with degrees are taking jobs like retail
that normally don't require degrees.

More than half of America's recent college graduates are either unemployed
or working in a job that doesn't require a bachelor's degree, the Associated
Press reported this weekend.

About 48 percent of all working college alumni - not just recent graduates -
were underemployed in 2010 as the United States began a slow recovery from
the Great Recession, including 5 million graduates in jobs that require less
than a high school diploma, according to a study from the Center for College
Affordability and Productivity.

Well if you get a worthless degree then it is your own fault. If you get a
STEM degree you can write your own ticket. Don't go to college and get in
debt if your degree in home economics won't pay off.

Humanities? Social Sciences? Philosophy? Ethnic/gender studies?

People with degrees in English or other languages?

We have no need for people like that?

We should tell university administrators to remove those as courses
satisfying breadth requirements??

The Enraged Apostate

Right-wing talking points show a popular appeal in
the same way that trainwrecks are morbidly fascinating.
But soon after the desire to be horrified at the spectacle passes,
the realization soon follows that it is all an ugly, bloody mess,
and it will only be cleaned up with leftist methods and a liberal in charge.

No, let the market place dictate the degrees offered. There are
millions of students who have the resources through their families to
pay for a degree in philosophy or English so they should be allowed to
seeks those degrees. We can however influence the market place by
cutting out loans and grants for people seeking such degrees since
they lead to less employment opportunities.

Architecture is one of the -least- valued degrees -- are we to stop building
buildings?

Fine Arts degree? Check the list of jobs for that here:

That's an engineering degree, one of the STEM.

If you are talking about architecture having an artistic flair, well, I
don't know how much the architects are given in instruction with putting a
veneer on the structurally sound foundation.

I am not arguing that it is. The other poster(s) to whom I am responding
is/are.

How about charging different rates for different majors.

I mean why should a computer graduate pay as much for their degree as
a womens study major or french lit or a spanish major.

Or maybe the computer major should pay less since it seems our country
needs them much more then most other majors. If one wants to major in
french liturature that is fine...but no reason for banks to loan them
any money.

Kind of like the army...the cook or supply room clerk makes the same
as a GCA operator in the control tower. IN time of war the infantry
slob should be getting top dollar for sure. And the air force pukes in
the rear...not so much money.
