A man accused of groping women as he rides past on a mountain bike has
struck at least six times in the Santa Monica area.

The first of the six similar assaults was reported Jan. 27. In all
cases, the suspect uses his mountain bike to get away.

“The suspect just rides up and gropes women,” said Sgt. Richard Lewis
of the Santa Monica Police Department.

Three of the case occurred on Broadway between Princeton and Stanford.
Two others were reported on Stanford just north of 6th Street. The
final attack happened on Franklin and Arizona.

Groping? Are you trying to tell us something Mike? I thought what
happened in the jail shower stays in the jail shower.

Thanks for demonstrating, for the umpteenth time, exactly where
mountain bikers' minds are located (not that we didn't know
already...).

Surveillance photo of robber from Umpqua Bank

Police are hunting for a man who robbed the Umpqua Bank branch on 10th
Street this afternoon.

The masked suspect entered the bank at 1:42 p.m. and indicated to a
teller that he was armed with a handgun, Medford police Lt. Mike
Budreau said.

The man fled the bank with cash and was last seen at a nearby hotel
parking lot where he had stashed a blue mountain bike.

Witnesses saw the suspect ride the bike south of the bank on Riverside
Avenue. He was last seen heading toward 12th Street, Budreau said.

The suspect is described as a white adult, 5 feet, 6 inches with a
medium build and salt-and-pepper facial hair.

He wore a tan fishing hat, a white bandana covering part of his face,
blue jeans and a black and grey jacket.

Budreau said the incident left the teller shaken.

"She was pretty emotional," he said. "Fortunately, no one was
injured."

If caught, the man faces serious felony robbery charges.

"It's a concern for us that he said he was armed," Budreau said. "It's
a pretty bold act to rob a bank. He could be dangerous so we're asking
the public to call us if they see him and not approach him."

Forensic technicians worked through the afternoon to catalogue any
evidence left by the suspect at the scene.

Meanwhile, officers buzzed the area south of downtown and the bike
path looking for the suspect.

"It's a bright, sunny day and we hope we can locate him here in
Medford before he gets away," Budreau said. "He was on a bike so he
might have covered a lot of ground before we arrived."

Medford police have two other unsolved bank robberies in 2012, which
do not appear to be related to this case. On Jan. 8 the US Bank at 910
N. Phoenix Road was robbed. On April 3 the Chase Bank at 81 E. Stewart
Ave. was robbed. No suspect has been publicly identified in either of
those cases

Anyone with information is asked to contact Medford detectives at
541-774-2230 or dispatch at 541-770-4783.
