One bad stat in the article: "Vista, which has installed cameras at
five intersections since 2004, saw a dramatic improvement at Vista
Village Drive and North Santa Fe Avenue. The number of right-angle
collisions there dropped from 16 in 2003 to one last year."
Neglects to mention that intersection has been totally reconfigured
for the Sprinter crossing and transit station there. Among other
things, this means there are times when no one is going east/west.
I've had it take 15+ minutes midday Saturday to get through there. So
I avoid it entirely when possible, as does everyone I know, especially
parents rushing to get their kids to school on time in the morning.
As far as not being for revenue enhancement, I call BS. If a city is
using red light cameras to pay police staffing, that is an
enhancement.
