I think the reason that it's not open is we worry that will result in
lots of spam.

Do people think it should be opened? I can also make any other editors
that want full managers of the google groups list. Jodi, you want it?

Jonathan,

Spam is bad. But so is having to subscribe to post. Dunno... And, no, I'd rather not manage the list...

Why would you want to post to a mailing list you weren't subscribed to?
I'm missing the 'use case' here, to evaluate whether it's worth the spam
trade off. (And we DO gets lots of spam to the editors-only list, which
we have open to non-posters because the use-case is that that's the only
way for non-editors to communicate with editors to for instance submit
an article. :) Google groups gets most of it, but sends me an annoying
message every time it stops a spammer. Which I just filter to my trash
can. Hopefully I'm not missing any other important google groups admin
messages).

As I recall, a few months ago, we had some suggestions from a reader. People who are occasionally involved but not heavily involved, or people who just don't like getting email (or subscribing nomail).

Spam is a big issue, so perhaps we're best leaving things as is.

Yes, I need to can those messages from Google, too. (It's phantom-spam!)

To me, people can either subscribe to discuss (if they want to
participate in the discussion and see the responses), or they can email
c4lj-articles (if they just want to drop a suggestion into a suggestion
box, the end). Maybe c4lj-articles ought to be called c4lj-editors,
since that's what it is, but we have enough trouble remembering to
discuss business that could be open on the open discuss list already.
The -articles is supposed to be a reminder for us that if it doesn't
need to be confidential, it doesn't need to be there. But it doesnt'
seem to be working anyway. :)
