could we CC the c4lj lists a little bit less?

At some point we seem to have picked up the collective habit of CCing
the c4lj-articles list with every communication an editor makes to an
author. I'm not sure why we started doing this; do we all need to be
CCd on every such communication, including form letters? I don't think
we do, I think an assigned editor can carry out communications with
authors out of band, and only update us if there's something we need
updating on.

Even without these CCs, the c4lj-articles list gets a considerable
volume of email filling up all of our inboxes. The situation would be
somewhat improved without all these CCs.

Do you think we could maybe stop them? And not CC unless there's some
special reason all the other editors need to see the
communication--which is seldom going to be true of a form letter. What
do you think?

CC'ing the form letter, like the requests for CC-BY license requests, is a way to document, and let others know, that it's been done.  Some of the communication needs to, or should be, documented for future, even if short-term, reference.  But the point is taken.  There are times when it gets overwhelming.

I'd rather just trust the assigned editors to do their job, then have
the expectation that everything needs to be documented. But that's just
me maybe.

For Creative Commons licensing, since we don't know what's essential, it's useful to have documentation (at least the acceptance) to the list.

Personally I'd rather drown in email than be wondering where things are. But I understand where you're coming from, and if we keep the spreadsheet up to date, it's reasonable to send acceptances & reminders to authors off-list.
