Bethany Wilderness Ministry Update July 7, 2011 www.bethanywildernessministry.org(you can find us on facebook too!)Summer is here! We have a month full of challenging hikes so hopefully everyone has been getting in shape this spring and is ready to head out on a wilderness adventure. We also have our first BWM gathering of the year coming up, the always popular canoe and BBQ event hosted by the McBrides. Check out our upcoming activities below and contact the leaders listed if you are interested in a particular event. Rainier up to Camp Muir at 10,200 ft and enjoy a fun challenging hike in the snow with great views. This trip or previous climbing experience is a pre-requisite for the South Sister climb on July 23-24.
BWM July Gathering - Canoe & BBQTues. Meet at the church at 6pm in parking lot behind sanctuary to carpool over to the WAC. BBQ begins at 7:30pm at the McBride house (519 NE 95th St. Seattle) Cost is $8.50 per canoe (or $4.25 per person).

We will camp at Upper Snowy Lake just past Granite pass and Cutthroat pass. The view from Snowy Lakes Pass is Straight up Golden Horn and to Tower Mountain and out across Methow Pass to the Spires of Mount Hardy. We will safely scramble up Golden Horn and Tower Mountain. The scenery is expected to be epitome of pristine and surreal. Expect a difficult hiking and relaxing around alpine lake.South Sister Climb OvernightSat. - Sun. July 23-24thDifficulty: Extremely Difficult, 11 miles RT, 4900 ft of elevation gainContact: Brian MacRae, macrae.br...@gmail.com-Climb to the summit of the 3rd tallest mountain in Oregon, South Sister at 10,358'. This is a non-technical climb without the need for ropes or glacier travel. Ice ax, crampons, and helmets will be required and are available as rentals at REI. Views from the top are spectacular with great views of numerous Oregon peaks! Previous climbing experience or participation on the Camp Muir hike on July 9th are required for joining us on this trip.
