Karnataka Sanskrit University has instituted awards for best Sanskrit works in the memory of Prof. M.Hiriyanna, first professor of philosophy and Sanskrit in Karnataka. The Sanskrit works published in previous three years belonging to various types of Sanskrit literature would be considered for award.
This year seven books are selected for the award. The award ceremony will be held in Yavanika Bangalore on 26th Sept 2010 at 5030pm. The Higher Education Minister of Karnataka State C.T. Ravi will confer the awards to the awardees. Honble VC of KSU Prof. Mallepuram G Venatesh will preside over the function. The following eminent scholars will receive the awards.
1. Dr. Bannanje Govindacharya for his work on Mahabharata Tatparya Nirnaya
2. Prof. A.Haridasa Bhat, for his translation of Brahmasutra Bhashya
3. Dr. Lakshmi Narayana Bhat, Udupi for his work - Sahitya vallari.
4. Dr. Veera Narayana Pandurangi, Jaipur for his commentary on Panchalakshani Shatakoti
5. Dr. R. Shankar, Bangalore for his literary piece "Deva-daanaviyam" (chitra kavyam)
6. Dr. Janardana Hegde, Editor, Sambhashana Sandesha for his Sanskrit Story collection
7. Vidvan Venkatesha Kulakarni for his play - Pramadvaraa-haranam.
The awards are given every year with a shawl, citation and 10,000 cash.
