National Seminar on Pramanas at Kanchi University

Dear Scholars,

The Department of Sanskrit & Indian Culture of Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Viswa Mahavidyalaya organizes a two day national seminar on Pramanas in Astika Darsanas on 23rd & 24th February 2012. The brochure of the same is enclosed.

Please note that those who are sending full papers will be permitted to present their paper since we want to publish the proceedings.

Interested Scholars can apply for the same.

Other scholars bless us towards the fair conduct of the seminar.

That is nice to have a Seminar on Pramanas .

You may  request  the  scholars  to write on Pramanas , if it falls under your area , also in

1.   Veda (तैत्तिरीयारण्यकम् - अरुणम्) --

स्मृतिः प्रत्यक्षमैतिह्यम् , अनुमनश्चतुष्टयम् , एतैरादित्यमण्डलम् , सर्वैरेव विधास्यते ...
(it was , as far as my knowledge goes , only Bhattacintamani (beginning) who touched this aspect, he says  'अनुमानः’ is छान्दस , i.e. it should be अनुमानम् , but there is the usage of Patanjali under भूवादयो धातवः , 1-3-1 ,and another Sutra-- को’सौ अनुमानः ? , Kaiyata and Nagesa think if it is नपुम्सक it means Pramanam and in Pumlinga it means हेतु , but  in light of the above Vedic usage in Pumlinga in the sense of Pramana , neither is correct, I rather feel -- अनुमितिः -स्त्रियाम् क्तिन्,   अनुमितम् - नपुम्सके भावे क्तः , अनुमानम् - अनुमानः -- ल्युट् ---all are the same in terms of Semantics) .

2. Ramayanam (AyodhyA), Mahabharatam (Santi) , Bhagavatam (11 Skandha)

3. Bhaktimimamsa (Tantra)

4.Vyakaranam ( 6 + अभ्यासः  , अदृष्टम् -- वाक्यपदीयम् , ब्रह्म - 34 , 35 ,..., अर्थापत्तिः - पस्पशा ... , अनुपलब्धिः - वर्तमाने लट् ...etc )

5.Mimamsa - प्रत्यभिज्ञा (अध्यायः- 1) etc.

In works like न्यायकुसुमाञ्जलि  all the Pramanas acceptable to some Sastras are not stated .

And in Ayurveda (Caraka and Susruta ) , the order is - शब्दः - प्रत्यक्षम् - अनुमानम् . Mostly Vaidyakam follows Samkhya and Nyayavaisesika .

Please arrange the material on BVP so that many scholars will get benefited , embedded is my स्वार्थ - it will be useful for my forthcoming book , styled - Pramanas in Indian Philosophy .
