I mentioned back in may that I had some concerns about my repository size. I've tracked what it's done since then. Turns out it was just a blip. I don't have an explanation for it, but it was a single occurrence. I've attached my graph and the scripts used to generate it, for interest's sake and in case somebody else finds them useful. The initial save spans two days (across midnight), and so shows up as two points on the graph.

Basically I have a repository that grows from 230GB at somewhere around 300MB/day. It looks like I'm not going to have to worry about cleaning up old backups at all. The data growth seems quite comparable to the growth of the data I'm backing up. I guess that means that it's mostly new files, not changes in my data. I do wish I had an explanation of the 12GB jump in a single day though.

$ GIT_DIR=~/.bup git log

can tell you what changed that day.
