Hello. Friends

Could someone please send me in text format a copy of the standard
default permissions, groups, and owners for the standard gnu/linux
directorys as I happened to mess up my permissions with chown -R root
and chmod -R o-rwx
Yikes... so far my data has not been lost. Yea.

Can someone suggest me application to browse and

You didn't get banned, but you did get kicked off the server for pasting
everything into the channel. Simply reconnect to the freenode and join
back in.

There really are no linux distributions that are similar to solaris. The
BSD's are closer then linux FreeBSD, OpenBSD, etc. Opensolaris is closer
to linux then it is to solaris, but it still isn't that user friendly it
does use ZFS a type of file system that automagically raid 1's all
information on different sectors of the disk and provides snapshots

So for being pretty new to linux - Ubuntu is definitely the route I
will take til i get more familiar w/ it.
Also, what distro is most similar to solaris?

Yes Ubuntu is much more user friendly and comes with more drivers (like
the ones that you were having trouble with your wireless card the other
day). Fedora distro's are made to be run on servers and sold to
businesses with support that they pay for. Ubuntu also has more packages
in it's package manager then Fedora, and from my experiences with fedora

So i have had a lot of trouble just getting minor stuff working in Fedora 8...
We have an UBUNTU box here at work and it pretty much works flawlessly
straight out of the box. Is UBUNTU that much more user-friendly than
Fedora or am I giving up prematurely on FC8?
