Bull Mooser's,

My name is David Grove and I am a big game hunting guide located in the east bay. I have had the pleasure of hunting with many of you but I am sure there are others I haven't met yet.

Bear season is upon us and I am offering a guided bear hunt (archery or rifle, your choice) in the Yollo Bolly wilderness for the weekend of October 27th. This is a three day hunt (potentially four day but up to the client) that involves backpacking 5 miles into a roadless wilderness area to hunt bears. I have had much success in this particular area over the years and typically see at least a couple bears per day (see attached pictures). The bears in this area can reach up to 500 pounds or more and can be black, brown, cinnimon, amber, and blonde colored.  We would be tent camping in the wilderness, filtering our own water, eating back packing food, etc. and seeing some of the most beautiful country the state has to offer. This is an oppoortunity to learn the in's and out's of what it takes to hunt in rugged California country. We would also likely not see another person for the entire time we are in the woods.

I have room for two hunters (the total party would be three: me and two hunters) and the fee is $750 per person. For this fee, I will provide transportation, and most of the gear we will need. Hunters would need their own backpacks (frame pack), sleeping bags, and firearms.

If any of you are interested please let me know asap so I can plan accordingly. This is a great hunt and one that you would not soon forget. If anyone is interested in references for me let me know and I can get you the names of other hunters in the Bull Moose group that have hunted with me.

Best,
Dave

I would just like to say that Dave is an absolutely awesome guide, great all-around guy and this is a super deal.  I would be all over it, just need to get better with the bow.  If anyone is on the fence I would say jump on this quick, I'm sure it will go fast...

Brook,

Thanks for the endorsement! And by the way, this hunt can be archery OR rifle. Totally up to the hunter.

Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave,
This hunt sounds absolutely amazing.  I have done a ton of duck hunting and some deer hunting but never bear.  I have not gotten any of my guns from back east (Eastern shore of Delaware) but will definitely be signing up next year.  It sounds awesome!

Thanks for the info.

Best,
Harper

Hi Dave,

I had actually already been thinking about this, inspired by your posts last year. Unfortunately (sort of) my wife and I are expecting the birth of our daughter the weekend following the proposed hunt, so it's not the best time for me to be out in the woods for three days. You can put me on your list of people interested for the future though...

Thanks and good luck!

Josh

To the group,

As it turns out, it looks like I could potentially do this hunt this comming weekend or the weekend of November 3rd in addition to the October 27th weekend. Just an FYI.

Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave,

Those are possibilities. What would be the travel dates (ie, what days would I need to take off)?

Cheers,

Bryan, you would love this hunt. It is a great combination of physical endurance, scenic beauty and the fact that you are hunting bears. We would even potentially have the opportunity to use those long distance shooting skills you have.

It is a five and a hlaf hour drive to the trail head so ideally the best case scenario would be to leave Wednesday night or super early Thursday morning. This would give us most of the day Thursday, all day Friday and Saturday and half a day Sunday to hunt. I have headed up Thursday night after work in the past and that works too, it is just not as much time to hunt. Totally up to you and I would be fine either way.So basically you could either take Thursday and Friday, or just Friday off work.

I am not kidding when I say this is probably one of the coolest hunts I go on every year.

Let me know,
Dave

To anyone who's interested, Dave is an awesome guide! I've been out with him a few times and I'm continually impressed with his ability to see and track wildlife. I'm a wildlife biologist and Dave's got as good of an eye as anyone I've seen. Also, he's got a great sense of ethics and sportsmanship - he has respect for the animals he's hunting and the ecosystems they live in. Anyhoo, this sounds like an awesome trip! have fun out there!

Greetings from Alaska!

This is a great hunt. I've never hunted with Dave, but I've met him and seen a number Dave's successes, and have hunted since 1994, the same area that Dave guides on. The place is packed with bear of all color phases. I've taken blonde, cinnamon, and dark brown phases of black bear from the area, in weights from 200 to 360 pounds, over the years.

By taking out as many bears as you can, you'll also be helping the deer population. Not to mention black bear is one if my favorite meats to eat!

Here are some articles from my multimedia outdoors magazine to get you excited about hunting black bear:

http://corksoutdoors.com/blog/cambodian-honey-bear-steaks/

Be sure to also "like" Cork's Outdoors on Facebook as I don't regularly post on the BMHS list, but everyone who subscribes to Cork's Outdoors gets the latest: we're also in German, French, Italian and Spanish, too!

And hey, if you're up in Alaska, drop me a line!

....I'll be back in CA for a few months, starting the 26th, and will be hunting waterfowl and upland birds with my Brittany--let me know if anyone would like to join me.

Cheers,
Cork
