 in this week.  Thanks. Dee

 SINGLE PAYER CALL FOR ACTION!

WEEK 4

Thanks to your actions (and those of countless others

from around the country),

we’re making headway in our effort to see

SINGLE PAYER health reform enacted!

SINGLE PAYER is still not exactly “on the table” but SINGLE PAYER advocates have now been “at the table” giving testimony in Congress.

Drs. Quentin Young and Steffie Woolhandler testified before the

important House Ways and Means Committee

and the Energy and Commerce Committee, respectively.

Link to Dr.Young’s testimony:

Link to Dr. Woolhandler’s testimony: http://www.pnhp.org/news/2009/june/testimony_of_steffie.php

So we are making progress!

Week 4: Call to Action!

This week’s Call to Action is again directed to the Health Subcommittee of the Ways and Means Committee because it is crucial that the SINGLE PAYER bill in the House (HR 676) be scored by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO). Two other proposals were recently found by the CBO to increase the deficit by at least $1 trillion over 10 years

--and still left millions of Americans uninsured.

(If you called last week, it's fine to call again this week since the message is updated.)

STEP 1: Review this week’s TALKING POINT:

I’m calling to tell Representative ______name_____that it’s essential for the CBO to score HR 676 to determine the costs and coverage of SINGLE-PAYER compared to other proposals. HR 676 should save $400 billion per year, but Americans need to know if that's true. HR 676 has 83 co-sponsors—more than any other health reform proposal in Congress and should be scored by the CBO! Thank you.

STEP 2: Call Rep. Rangel and several subcommittee members on Health below and deliver the TALKING POINT. (Takes about 2 minutes/call.) The more calls, the better!

(All can be reached through the toll-free Capitol Switchboard 800-828-0498.)

Rep. Charles Rangel (D-NY) Chair of Ways & Means Committee 202-225-4365

Rep. Pete Stark (D-CA) Subcommittee on Health 202-225-5065

Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-TX) Subcommittee on Health 202-225-4865

Rep. Mike Thompson (D-CA) Subcommittee on Health 202-225-3311

Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-CA) Subcommittee on Health 202-225-6235

Rep. Earl Pomeroy (D-ND) Subcommittee on Health 202-225-2611

Rep. Ron Kind (D-WI) Subcommittee on Health 202-225-5506

Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) Subcommittee on Health 202-225-4811

Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ) Subcommittee on Health 202-225-5751

Rep. Shelley Berkley (D-NV) Subcommittee on Health 202-225-5965

Rep. Wally Herger (R-CA) Subcommittee on Health 202-225-3076

Rep. Sam Johnson (R-TX) Subcommittee on Health 202-225-4201

Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) Subcommittee on Health 202-225-3031

Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) Subcommittee on Health 202-225-2523

STEP 3: Reply to this email to report how many calls you made. (appreciated)

                     Please email dbe...@sbcglogal.net

STEP 4: Forward this email to others you think might help in the campaign.

Quick Alternative or additional Action:

Here's a link to a petition in support of

U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders’ SINGLE-PAYER bill S 703 (very similar to HR 676):

SINGLE-PAYER is not just another proposal.

It’s the ONLY proposal that:

~ eliminates $400 billion annually in administrative waste--

enough to cover all the uninsured!

~ provides comprehensive care

(dental, mental health/drug treatment, prescriptions)

~ gives your choice of doctor—rather than your choice of private insurance plan

~ has public accountability (insurance companies are only accountable

            to shareholders for profits!)

~ is based on a realistic funding plan which makes fiscal sense

The White House and both houses of Congress are controlled by one political party so they have the power to enact REAL HEALTH REFORM.

We must insist on it.
