I want to embed the "How Kiva Works" video on the home page of my app.

Do I need any special permission to embed the image (http://
l3-2.kiva.org/r31377-1/images/video_thumb_how.png) or the video
(http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=16991128)?

No. For Kiva IP you only need to link back to the original image/page. This video is actually owned by an individual contestant to a promo. The same rules would apply for embedding any Vimeo video.

A minor correction:
Yes, it's ok to embed the video.  There are some restrictions on how images are used, for example, someone using our logo image in a way that implied an affiliation where none exists might be on thin ice, but I think it's fine for you to use that image for the purpose you describe. I suggest hosting your own copy of it rather than relying on our URL staying the same.

While the original version of this video was created by a contestant in a promo, I think Kiva owns all the rights, and we've modified this video from the contestant's version.  In particular, I re-dubbed the audio to fix some inaccuracies in how things were worded.

thanks for checking, Jay

Actually, I may have misspoke slightly. Kiva actually owns the rights to the video. In any case, all videos on Vimeo are available for embedding. Anything beyond embedding might require more research.

Thanks for the clarification.
So, I will use both the image and video, and make sure on the footer
of every page we mention the following:

"KivaStream is not affiliated with Kiva.org in any way. KivaStream
simply aims to promote Kiva.org and its clearly stated mission."
