Dear all

I need to transition my almost 9 mth old boy from an infant car seat to a bigger one as he is outgrowing the current one that came with the graco travel system.

Pls can I get some feedback on which car seat I can buy now... Something that can last for the next few years and also has the option to recline as well because he is still too small to sit upright for too long.

Pls mention preferred brands and where its best to buy it from.

Many thanks

Hi, I've used Maxi Cosi Pearl for my little girl since she outgrew her small seat and really trust this seat.
The Maxi Cosi Pearl is a great comfortable seat, easy to use and reclines too. It requires the family fix base though and only fixes into the car by isofix (making it extra safe), but if you don't have isofix points in your car you could buy the Maxi Cosi Tobi (which we also now have) as this is pretty much the same seat but uses the car seat belt to secure it. Both seats fit very securely in the car, Tobi also reclines and both of these seats also sit quite high up, giving the child a good view out of the window which my little girl loves!
The only negative I have found is the price of these here in Hungary are very expensive! Double what you can get them for in the UK.
I bought our Tobi here second hand.

I would say its worth the expense of getting a seat that is a good brand though (Maxi Cosi, Britax/Romer, Graco etc) as they are tested to much higher safety standards than some others. European safety standards actually only state that the seat needs to be safe in a 30mph collision, so some seats are not tested above this and still get the 'tested to EU standards' certification! Do your research on each seat (not just brand) as their safety results vary greatly. I know the Pearl and Tobi did well, and others are also good, but so many are hardly worth using at all!

Another thing to bear in mind is when to transfer from the small rear facing seat to the next one. The rear facing seat is the MOST safe one and it is best to keep your little one in it as long as possible, until he has actually out grown it. Many experts say that so long as their head is not sticking out the top of the seat then it's still the safest option to use. Doesn't matter about their legs. We kept our little one in the rear facing seat until she was well over 1 year old actually, but she was quite small.

GOOD LUCK!

We bought a Volvo car seat which is a bit expensive, but this way our little ones can sit facing rear for longest. Volvo recommends until the age of 4 so that they necks are strong enough to hold the head in case of an impact. It is from 9-25 kg. We used it with our first girl until she was over 2 (the US recomendation for rear facing seat) and now i will use it with my little one as soon as she is 9 kg cause its more comfortable than the babyseat...
