Hey all,

I found a wonderful website that summarizes our current state of
understanding of the science behind a number of hot-button parenting
issues, such as breastfeeding, potty training, sleeping, colic, etc.

In particular, I would like to recommend the article about feeding
schedules, in light of the recent conversation on this list:

Dear Moms/Ladies/Reka,

Can you please give me your advice if anything needs to be done with breasts after you stop breastfeeding baby? My daughter is 10 months old. I have stopped with breast milk about 1 week ago, breast feel a bit painful when touch and have some hard spots. Please let me know what to do?

Thank you in advance.

Natasha

Hi Natasha,

Try cold compresses (on the breast), sage tea (drink), or crushed cabbage leaves (on the breast) to help with the discomfort. If that doesn't help, try to express just enough to make yourself comfortable.

Usually, it's a good idea to stop breastfeeding gradually, not all at once, to avoid problems of engorgement or a possible breast infection (mastitis). It will take about 40 days for your milk to completely dry up.

Good luck!

Réka
