Ciao moms

Elated to finally join the mommy club.

I want to do cotton diapers for my newborn girl. Any idea on where I
can get cotton diapers or alternatively thick cotton towels that are
appropriate for this purpose?And cost.

Thanks in advance

Ciaociao

Is she born! Congrats! Can't wait to hear more about her! I have some newborn diaper covers I might consider selling, let me think about it a little... I have three - send me a direct message if you're interested in those. I saw diapers at babamosoly.hu but the seemed like an expensive kind. In November a shop is opening called mamami that will be selling diapers. Hope you are well and the birth went well! Deidre

Hi!

I believe that a store called Liliputi sells them. Their website is www.liliputi.hu or their store is behind Mammut in Lövöhaz utca.

hello all,
congratulations, Kun!
I was just going to ask something similar. Actually I now have plenty of diapers but am looking for some of those covers. Deidre, where did you get yours? I seem to remember you mentioning a package with different sizes for when they grow. Was it from Bp or the US?
(Will try to get to the Wednesday group again this week, so hopefully see you there.)

hey Deidre

Yes, she was born last Sunday. It was great experience for both of us:
we were in the familiar environment, with no intervention, it was a
moment that belonged to us two. It's funny that the whole time we
thought it was a boy!

Keep them if you find yourself having second thought about selling
them. I'd love to get the package with different sizes like Elissa
mentioned. Also, the cotton diapers I bought from the store are quite
thin. The thick kind would be ideal.

Thanks, Adriana, we'll check out that store.

Elissa, are you using the thick diapers or the thin ones like I have?
Where did you get yours?

Hi everyone,

Kun, I got my cloth diapers from my sister-in-law but they are the thin kind. I was sort of hoping for the thick bubbly kind I'm used to from the US. but my own sister will be sending me some of those I think. But are they available in Hungary?

and Kun, does that mean you gave birth at home? how wonderful!

looking forward to your answers,
Elissa

Hi Elissa, Kun, everyone -
Won't be at the group for awhile, due to broken foot :-( but I can pass on the info. I ordered a newborn package from nicki's diapers. I think it's Nickisdiapers.com or something like that. It had an all-in-one (not worth it without a dryer), a fitted (also really slow to dry) and 4 newborn size covers for up to 10 pounds. It came with 30 prefolds, half in newborn size, and half the next size up. Oh, and one one-size pocket diaper. Since we didn't get started fast enough using them, it wasn't worth it for me to have the smallest covers, but part of the problem was I didn't really know how to use them well. If I could do it again it would be fine. Since she's grown a little I find the prefolds with covers to be enough - and 15 of the bigger size with 4 small size (not newborn) is plenty. I also received some pocket diapers called Blueberry, which are awesome. Pocket diapers dry just as fast as the prefolds do. They are one-size from birth to toddler, with snaps. They were really too bulky to use when she was a newborn though. I saw the diapers at Lilliputti, and they are basically pocket diapers, but with an insert that attaches in somehow, and not an actual pocket. Also, I have seen on mamami.hu that quite a few people sell covers used. The newborn size is good for such a short time that I think used would be the way to go. I bought some used covers recently for 1500 each and they seem really good. I have also heard you can get a sort of old-school plastic pants number at that elephant store next to the szabo ervin library at kalvin ter. Last thing: I really tried to use flats, but maybe I'm missing something because I have not been able to make them work...

I would be willing to sell 10 of the newborn size prefolds I have to someone... And yes, you can get prefolds in Hungary, i think they even have them at Brendon, I think the brand is called Bambini or something like that. I think they are really expensive here, and from US sites run about 2.50 each.  I have the 'chinese diaper service' quality, but there's another kind that 'indian'. I prefer the unbleached to the bleached.

Hi Deidre,
oh no, sorry about your foot! not nice.
so as a total beginner I had to do some poking around on the internet but I think now I understand what pocket diapers, prefolds, and flats are. So I guess the "thin" diapers Kun and I have are flats? And you couldn't make them work - they leaked/didn't absorb enough? boy, I didn't know all of this was so complicated...
I guess this means I'm in the market for both covers and prefolds, newborn size, in case anyone else is selling. but I'll also post something at mamami.
thanks for the tips everyone.

 Hello Moms!

We will be leaving Budapest in January next year. We are moving to Moscow and will leave behind many beautiful memories, friends and lots of little helpers. Since our little helpers are looking for new families to support, I would like to recommend the following and please let me know, if you are interested in any of the offered services. I will get you in touch with them:

Cleaning and Ironing Lady
Kati has been with us for over 3 years and she has helped 3 other families who we know well, but have left BP by now. She is a single mom and her regular job (which she does in the afternoon) is working as a teacher in a childeren's home in the 2nd district. She is looking for families to offer her cleaning and ironing service to. She is super reliable and has had the key to our house for 3 years now. She is asking for 1.000 Ft an hour. Her work is very efficient and of good quality.

Personal Trainer/ Babysitting
Tünde is a personal trainer focused on pregnant women or women who have just given birth and want to get back in shape. She comes to my house ones a week and we do 1 1/2 exercise. My son loves her. She wants to learn English and does she would like to offer a barter service: You talk to her in English and she will either babysit your child or give you personal training lessons for free. She is a mother of two and is great with kids. Eitherwise a sesson with her costs 5.000 Ft.

Massage for pregnant women
Adel gives wonderful aromatherapy massages in her studio focusing on pregnant women. I still go to her every once in a while and can highly recommend her. She is located in the 12th district in her own studio. A session lasts 1 1/2 and costs 8.000 Ft. Initially, I also took Philipp along, but now he is too mobile and I cannot relax. You can take your baby though. Adel used to be a kindergarten teacher and loves kids.

Please let me know, in case you would like to get in touch with any of the girls. I would really like to help them in finding a new family.

Great idea Adriana to pass on the valuables, thank you very much!!! (We're so sad you're leaving though...)
I'd be interested in all three of them, at least on occasions if they are ok with that as well.

Thanks a zillion!

And I promise to "give them back" if you decide not to leave :p

hugs,
judit

Dear Deidre!

I copied Tünde on your note. I will meet her tomorrow and also tell her personally about your interest and pass along your contacts. Regarding the cleaning lady I would recommend a personal meeting as her foreign language skills are not too great. If you let me know where you live and when would be convenient for you, she can come and see you and you can meet her personally. I will also pass on your details to her.  I am glad that you would be interested in both. They are both fantastic and have grown very close to me.

Regards,

A.

Hey ladies,

I have come across some more stores where they sell a selection of
cotton diapers:

http://e-baba.hu/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=1 it's only in
Hungarian though but pretty straightforward as website seems good.
Moshato pelenka = washable diapers

http://www.oko-baba.hu/index.php?page=shop.browse&category_id=1&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=18
They sell the Monapel range which I have never heard about but looks
good and it's half the price of the Bambinomio ones you can get from
Brendon. Anyone used these before?

also the annual Baby Show Expo will be next weekend 2009. november
6-8. at the Papp László Budapest Sportaréna by Stadionok metro
station. There is an entrance fee of 1600 HUF but you can use up that
cash to buy stuff from the vendors.

Thank you Andi for sharing the info.

The store at Baross u. 10 sells pocket diapers for 1450 ft each. It is
very close to Kalvin ter. They have other types of cloth diapers and
plastic pants. Unfortunately I only discovered this after my brother-
in-law had sent diapers from Canada.

I am looking for a wrap for my infant. The price for size L is around
6000 ft. I wonder if there is a better deal.

Hope you all are well.

Kun
