Hello everyone,

I am new to the group, and have arrived in Budapest not too long ago.
My partner and I are planing on having a baby here but have been told
that we need to obtain a paper of paternity for him.
I am aware of the procedure, and have gotten all necessary paper work
on my side, but was wondering if anyone knows from experience how long
once we apply at the local register does it take for them to issue us
this document and if its a "on the spot kind of procedure"?

Any help or advice would be great, being that we are approaching our
due date fast :)

Thank you so much ladies!

Neda

Hi Neda,

In short, I didn't have any papers ready before the birth and it was NO problem, so don't worry :-)

I gave birth at Telki Hospital (where they helped us with papers) and we had the polgarmesteri in the town Telki (think it's called that), an official office that registers births, to do it.
You have to bring a translator with you. But the woman there had the papers ready and we signed on the spot. 2-3 weeks later the paternity papers/birth registration came by post with a courier.

All in all a very smooth process.

Good luck with the baby.

Hello Neda,
We recently completed the process in the V kerulet before the birth at
Telki. The paternity papers took about two hours to process once we
had all the correct paperwork and translations, and had made an
appointment.
Good luck, and if you're in the V, let me know and I can give you more
info off list.

Best wishes,

Jessica

As Jessica wrote, it does not take long at all. I think for us it was less than an hour including waiting before our appointment. Pretty straightforward as long as you have all the paperwork put together.
