Subject: Fwd: FW: I have a grant available for schools - Wrigleys Litterless Campaign

Hi all,

Jennifer from the National Wildlife Foundation asked me to send this out.  The deadline is only a week away but I thought it would be a good opportunity for our schools & coordinators.

Hi Bailey - It was great talking with you a few minutes ago! Below is an email I sent to one of our schools describing the Wrigley's Litterless Campaign. You'll see the link to the Wrigley's website below.on that site you can look at a map of all the schools that are participating all over the world. Also note that I've attached a flyer describing the campaign to this email.

As I mentioned on the phone, schools need to register by September 28th to participate. And we have a limited number of $500 seed grants, so once 25 US schools have registered the money is gone.

Please pass along incase folks are interested. It would be great to have a school or two that participate in OGS also do our program!

Thanks so much!

Jennifer

Hi Julie -  I'd like to introduce myself, my name is Jennifer Murck and I will be working with you on the Wrigley's Litterless Campaign. I know you told Courtney Sullivan this past Spring that you would like to participate, so I'm getting back in touch with you  to provide some additional details.

Basically, your school will receive a $500 seed grant that can be used to launch a "Litterless campaign" at your school.  To refresh your memory, basically what this means is that to receive this funding you will need to address Eco-Schools USA's consumption and waste pathway and run through the seven step framework of the Eco-Schools program throughout the school year. The very cool thing about this is that there will be a web portal on a global level for this project where schools across the globe that are participating in this program can communicate and you can share information, successes and challenges.

So if you're still game to participate, there are a  few things that you have to do:

1.       First register as an Eco-Schools on our website at: http://www.nwf.org/EcoSchoolsRegister/EcoSchoolRegistration.aspx

2.       Then register on-line through the Wrigley's website http://eco-schools-wrigley.org/register-school.html. Here are a few tips for registering:

-          Enter your phone # without hyphens, it will like this 2062536081.  For some reason the hyphen's screwed the registration up.

-          Choose Seattle as your City (It is the closest one available)

-          Wrigley is the only project you are involved in

-          Under preferred themes select the 'pathways' you are interested in addressing.

3.       Once you have registered on the Wrigley's website and have agreed to participate on line they will send me a password and username that I will then send to you that will  allow you to login to a page where you can then document your progress throughout the year and as well communicate with other schools.  As well once you register you will receive 90% of the $500.

4.       Next during the school year, the school needs to address the issue of "litter" or in our case the consumption and waste pathway and associated 7 Eco-School USA steps.  They would like to see an action plan of what your school plans to do that outlines what your "campaign" will be and how it will be implemented.  Each participating school must have some type of kick-off event at the beginning of the school year - you can easily incorporate this into an existing event if you like.

5.       Share your work with another "local school" and try and involve them in the campaign

6.       Document your process through pictures, stories, video's etc...and upload onto site

7.       At end of the year or "campaign" when all your process has been documented you will receive the rest of the funding.

Sorry for the long-winded email! If you could confirm with me about your participation ASAP that would be great.  AND don't hesitate to email or call with questions. Thanks Much!

Jennifer

PS - I know that you are not very familiar with the Eco-Schools USA program, so I'd recommend you check-out the section of our website that explains the pathways and seven step process (http://www.nwf.org/Global-Warming/School-Solutions/Eco-Schools-USA/Become-an-Eco-School.aspx). If you want you can also watch our "Intro to Eco-schoolsUSA" webinar on Schooltube:http://www.schooltube.com/video/526b691b922922555d1b/Webinar-intro-to-EcoSchools-USA.
