mongodb with bson

 just i studying the mongodb, so when i go through the sites related with mongodb, i could see the "MongoDB stores documents (objects) in a format called BSON"
so actually i didn't get the clear idea of BSON . just i got, the bson have a format that using in the mongod.ie
"name": vishnu, "age" : 22..

so my idea is clear with bson? also why the mongodb follow thw bson?

It is similar to JSON, but a binary representation.

fast scanning and a couple extra data types are the difference from
JSON
