to The Bishnupriya Manipuri
Excerpt from "Prabondsuri"- A collection of essays by Col Bijay Sinha

"Aaji bishnupriya manipuri samaj tulanamulakbhabe anunnata osita
imarthar ba imartharor mahima harnapeya. uhanlo samajhan habi ekjut
oya imartharor unnatirka kam karani lagtoi. tobe ehan aachanakhan,
bishnupriya manipuri samaje jaram oya bishnupriya manipuri samajor
paribeshe dangor oya baro bisnupriya manipuri samajor samajik karma-
kasath yovoya bishnupriya manipuri thare ela dena nuaruri buler girak
githanak utare samajor isalpa, samajor rajdhari ba sutradhari baro
bishnupriya manipuri sanskritir rakhakari buliya samaje yakariya lei-
chandanlo boreytara ehanou komor bethik kothahan nagoi, ehanlo samaje
ebaka niyampara khalkoranir dorkar porese."

Translation-Today the bishnupriya manipuri society is comparatively
underdeveloped because the society has not realised the importance of
their mother tongue nor they have understood the greatness of their
own language. Being born in bishnupriya manipuri society, grown up in
the bushnupriya manipuri social environment, participating in the
bishnupriya manipuri cultural functions it is a shame if one cannot
sing in his/her own mother tongue. Surprisingly, the society
recognizes those artists who falsely claim themselves as the guardian
of the bishnupriya manipuri culture. It is high time that the society
starts thinking about this issue and works in unity for the upliftment
of the language and the society.
