On the subject of getting things for FREE, I'm really interested in
getting SkillSwap started again. The problem is, I'm far too busy
with work and other project to organise the events.

So I'd like to hear from people interested in helping out, and maybe
arrange a pub meet-up one evening to see who is keen as discuss where
we go from here.

Thoughts?

Hi Andy,

We (Chinwag) just went down and did a talk (well, Sam talked, I drank beer
and erm, listened) in Bristol for their SkillSwap. It was really good fun
and nice to spread the love between cities.

If there's anything we can do to help with the Brighton one let me know and
I'll see how we can help :)

Andy,

I'd like to help out ( on the verge of moving along the coast to
Brighton so would be good ) but my only skills seem to be a spot of
CSS, XHTML, photoshop etc, skills that I imagine are in abundance on
the list. Oh there's always my so called photography skills I guess.

Also, like Thayer, I can drink beer in case anyone needs some tuition.

Anyway, I'd love to help anyway I could

I'd be interested in being involved, and always happy to meet up in pub to
discuss. I could contribute a session around user-experience tools and
techniques if there was interest: usability, user testing, card sorting,
eyetracking, etc.

Andy,

Happy to help in any way I can.

Personally, I'm not sure that matters - everyone has their own take
on things and their own way of presenting. I don't think it matters
necessarily if you're covering a topic that's already been done -
you'll bring your own insights and probably cover slightly different
ground, or the same ground in a different way, all of which I think
is very worthwhile. It's always interesting to hear other people's
experiences.

So people - don't let thinking you have the same skills as everyone
else stop you from volunteering ;-)

I'd be interested in that.

Andy - I may have said this before, but I'd be quite interested in
the occasional case study type Skillswap session, as well as the
specific skills ones. E.g. where people talk about how they set about
tackling a particular design problem, or how they grew their business
from a one-man band to multi-million pound company (and back again,
no doubt ;-) or what they did when a client project went wrong, or
whatever. Then again I don't know whether that would appeal to others
- I might be in a minority of one there... ;-)

Happy to reprise any of my previous talks. Or if it's of interest I
could probably do one about the way the whole industry-education-
government thing works? Anyway, let me know if I can help.

Cheers,

Jon

How about using the upstairs at the Eagle as the venue? It seats about 30
and seems to have a projector & screen. Not to mention beer on tap. Not sure
about wifi.

Ok, I'll be in the Earth & Stars along with Mr Ribot and Mr Budd on
Thursday 18th (a week tomorrow). I'll be there from 18:30 onwards.

If you're at all interested in reviving SkillSwap, please come along.
Hopefully we can have a good discussion and get some ideas about what
people would like to see.

If you can't make it, but still want to contribute, drop me an email
with your suggestions and I'll bring it along on the night.

Thanks,
-Dom

Yeah, there will always be plenty of people who are interested in what
you've got to talk about.

Sounds interesting to me. You can't beat a good case study for getting your
points across!

Also, how about bunching some mini-SkillSwaps together or having a somewhere
(other than BNM, of course) where people can find others who want to talk
about similar things? I'm sure it'd be easier to get people to volunteer for
a short talk or part of a group thing and much less daunting than a
full-length solo effort.

Andy, what range of subjects do you see SkillSwap covering in the future?
Mainly Web-oriented skills and business stuff, or other computer media-type
things?

Cheers,
Baz
