Has anyone had any experience with LCN <http://www.lcn.com> for
registering or managing .uk domain names? They seem like they have their
heads screwed on, and I've always had an icky feeling with 1&1, so I'm
thinking of switching.

They are marginally more expensive for .uk names, but I think my icky
feeling is worth it. Would be glad to hear your thoughts.

I used them a LONG time ago (around 7-8 years i think) and found them
ok although limited in options for dns management. They've probably
changed considerably since then though.

Cheers

-1 for 1&1

For the last 3 years I've received letters from angry bailiffs wanting
to collect the £10 for the auto-renew of a domain I bought for a friend
years ago which I no longer have the email address associated with the
1&1 account. Each year I've spent about half a day trying to cancel this
domain and any accounts I've got with 1&1 and each year I've given up
because out of frustration. Awful awful company.

Yes, I think it must have changed a lot. One of the aspects that most
interested me was it looks like there is fairly decent DNS management:
Nameservers, A Record, C Name and MX Records.

Ah, yes. I can imagine 1&1 doing that.
