We have been using the BrightKite API for about a year now with very
few problems. It stopped working about 4 days ago. We haven't made
any changes to this on our end. When calling http://brightkite.com/places/[location
id]/notes.xml, I get the response:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<errors>
<error>
   <field>_fatal</field>
   <message>An unknown error has occured!</message>
</error>
</errors>

Have you tried the JSON route?

Where do you get the place_id from that you are sending?

It seems that the place_id you are sending is not valid, but is the
user's ID instead.

Thanks for the reply! I changed the parsing to find the location ID
more reliably. It seems to work now.
