October 11, 2011 BCRFD Auxiliary Minutes

BCRFD Auxiliary Mission Statement: The Bridger Canyon Rural Fire Department Auxiliary is made up of men and women of all ages whose mission is to support and assist the BCRFD and the Bridger Canyon Community.  We will assist in furnishing food and supplies to the BCRFD personnel and other volunteers during fires and natural disasters in Bridger Canyon.  We will facilitate, help maintain and raise funds for the BCRFD and the BC Community Center & Training Center.

Fireman’s Dinners:  Please sign up to help prepare a dinner for our Fireman and show your appreciation for all they do.  Schedule follows the minutes.  We would like to post this list in the Community Center so we need volunteers to sign up now.  Thanks

 

The meeting was started at 3:00pm with the salute to the Flag.  Our next scheduled meeting will be November 8, 2011.  The auxiliary monthly meetings will be held on the second Tuesday of each month, 3:00PM Community Center.  Those present: Cathy Anderson, Dan Astrom, Ann Chase, Janna Christensen, Valerie Gould, Eunie Guentzel, Jane Klos, Christine Pentecost and Luella Polette. 

 

OLD BUSINESS

Housekeeping:  If we need items in the pantry please list them on the inside white board of the pantry.  Be sure to pick up your dishes after an event and do not leave food in the refrigerator. 

              

Landscaping Committee: – Heidi McLoughlin, Franklin Coles, Susan Andrews, Eunie Guentzel, Luella Polette and Carol Fifer.   Dan Astrom said that they were awaiting more dirt from Colleen Carnine to finish the grading for the side yard of the Community Center.  The entrance way to the Community Center has been completed and a new tree and grasses were installed.  No other news from the landscaping committee until spring when we will tackle the rest of the project. Heidi reports:  We will have a meeting well before spring to get our ducks in a row.  Please note the “changing of the flag” on October 26th.  Old flag will be retired and a new flag will be raised by Sharon Erickson in memory of Jerry.  Flags are lasting just short of a year (10-11 months).  We’ll need to send out info to canyon residents at some point to reiterate how this all works if someone wants to donate a flag. 

 

Annual Pancake Breakfast and Art Sale: – 2012 Proposed date -  June 23,  7:30AM BCRFD

Peggy Foster, BCVFD treasurer, reports:  Pancake Breakfast gross receipts: 2011 - $6108.89;  2010 -$4134.00; 2009- $3992.00.  Thanks to the Bridger Canyon Community.  We should all be very proud. 

 

Baked Potato Dinner:        January 27, 2012                             5:30PM                Community Center

               Luella Polette has already ordered 175 potatoes.  Committee includes:  Luella Polette, Janna Christensen, and Ann Chase.

Fireman’s Calendar Fundraiser:

               2013 Production:  Christine Pentecost will present new ideas for this project as I understand some of the Fireman were reluctant to have their pictures taken.  We need to expand our subject material. 

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

Fire Auxiliary Preparation:  During our most recent fire disaster (October 6, 2011) at 4650 Jackson Creek the volunteers (Colleen Carnine, Eunie Guentzel, Luella Polette and Christine Pentecost)  suggested that we prepare a plastic tub for paper goods for future fire or disaster response.  Luella Polette said she would get the plastic tub. A grocery list for the initial response should also be prepared.  Christine Pentecost said that she would prepare this.

 

Thompson Rental Sale: – Accolades to Eunie and Denny Guentzel who bought the following for the Community Center at the Thompson Rental Liquidation Sale: (Funds used from fundraising projects.)

                              PS:  Eunie says – Do not lock the thermal containers when storing.

 

Fire Prevention Advice from Dan

Recommend all replace their smoke detector batteries and test their units.
Install carbon monoxide detectors. Test the ones they have.
Install propane detectors. Test the ones they have.
Have your chimney cleaned and inspected.
Keep combustibles away from the fire place.
Have your fire extinguishers inspected.
Have an evacuation plan in place.
Inspect Xmas light cords and outlets.

Reflective Signage;            Eunie and Denny Guentzel are gathering information for new signage for home owners in the Canyon.  Signage would aid the Fire Department in locating your home in case of an emergency.  Arnie Jacobs makes these reflective signs and the auxiliary is recommending that all home owners purchase and install these.  More information to follow.

 

Time Change:      November 6, 2011 

 

BC Community Room Booklet  - Material, inventory sheets etc.  have been updated and booklet is located in the Community Room.

 

BCFD Website - Remember the website bridgercanyonfd.com/BCFDMeetingCenter.aspx is up and running for scheduling of the BC Community Center with instructions on Center reservations.
