4. For versions v8.1.0.26 through v8.1.1.7 see the document How to upgrade to Bridge Works to v8.2.0.27.
5. There are two known bugs in v8.2.0.27.
The following components must be installed before installing Bridge Works dotNET;
·Microsoft Data Access Components 2.8 MDAC 2.8 is already bundled with XP Pro SP 2 and Vista OS.
·dotNET Framework 2.0 Vista users will need to install dotNET Framework 3.5 which has dotNET 2 included.
·Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Report Viewer
·Internet Information Services (IIS) This can be installed using the Add or Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components command button.
SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP2
Here is a link to SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP2. This needs to be the last component installed;
https://business.wsdot.wa.gov/Bridge/Preservation/Management/Apps/SQLEX2005SP2.EXE
All of these components can be located at;
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads
After the above components have been installed the Bridge Works Application Shell installation may be started.
Click on this address or open a Microsoft Internet Explorer window and enter this address;
https://business.wsdot.wa.gov/Bridge/Preservation/Management/Apps/BridgeWorksSetup_08_02_00_full.msi
Save the file to your desktop or any local folder. Vista users will need to review Help for Vista OS platforms
This MSI includes the BridgeWorks_BWSystem file which is a complete database backup. Therefore the download will take some time. Please be patient.
Install the .msi file as you normally would install an application; A. By using the Start/Run command button B. Double clicking the .msi file C. Run command for GPO
After the installation is complete launch the Bridge Works application.
When the application opens to the Splash Screen the installation of the BridgeInventory database (BridgeWorks_BWSystem file) will automatically start. After the BridgeInventory database has completed installing, the log-in window will open.
Log into the application and allow the Bridge Works Service service start the synchronization with the WSDOT server. It is advisable to allow the service to completely synchronize with the server before turning off the workstation or disconnecting from the internet.
Note: New users will need a Bridge Works account before they can continue. Please contact Grant Griffin to set up an account.
Those who will not be applying for a Bridge Works user’s account, such as IT personnel, may use the Guest account. This will launch the application in a “Read Only” mode that will allow the service to make a connection and synchronize with the WSDOT server.
To use the Guest account enter the following information in the log-in window.
Group: WSDOT User Name: Guest Password: password
After the application has opened check the lightening bolt in the lower right corner of the user interface window. The lightening bolt will turn yellow when there is a connection with the WSDOT server. As the Bridge Works Service communicates with the WSDOT server the number next to the lightening bolt will increase and then decrease to nothing when synchronization is complete.
It is advisable to allow the service to fully synchronize with the WSDOT server before shutting down the workstation or disconnecting from the Internet.
