Local Nonprofit Daisy C.H.A.I.N. Creating Healthy Alliances In New-Mothering Launches “Action for
Public Breastfeeding Awareness”

Eugene,OR~ The all volunteer organization Daisy C.H.A.I.N. Creating Healthy Alliances In New-Mothering
announces the launch of their “Action for Public Breastfeeding Awareness.” Beginning Monday April 15,
2013 volunteers will reach out to the over 440 businesses in the zip code 97401, introducing the organization
and asking businesses to place “Breastfeeding Welcome Here” stickers in plain sight.
The organization's Neighborhood New-Mothering Center is located at 1262 Lawrence # 3 Eugene
97401 and the Board of Directors feel it is important to reach out to all other businesses, starting with those
located within the shared zip code. The stickers are available free to the public and are sponsored by the
Department of Human Services, Office of Family Health.
“When mothers are out in public with their little ones, seeing these Breastfeeding Welcome Here
stickers can have a huge and positive impact on their ability to feel comfortable providing their children with
perfect nutrition, their breastmilk. Mothers are busy and are entitled to feel well-supported in their
communities while breastfeeding in public. Due to the superior, nutritional & immunological value of human
milk the entire community are stakeholders when it comes to breastfeeding mothers being successful,” said
Jennie Hawthorn Mayes International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), breastfeeding mother of
four young children, Co-Founder and Board President for Daisy C.H.A.I.N. Creating Healthy Alliances In
New-Mothering.
Some businesses, like the Vida Cafe on the McKenzie River in Vida, OR already proudly display the
sticker. “It is not the norm to see the Breastfeeding Welcome Here sticker. I felt relief and gratitude when I
saw the sticker in the Vida Cafe! I felt safe if I needed to nurse my child and I did not feel alone. Even years
after I finished breastfeeding, I see the sticker and am grateful other mothers can experience that same sense of
acceptance,” said local mother Emily Withalm.
Later the evening of April 15 at 7pm Daisy C.H.A.I.N. Creating Healthy Alliances In New-Mothering
will be presenting at the monthly meeting of Breastfeeding Coalition of Lane County. Coalition meetings are
open to the public and those who are interested in helping to protect, promote and support breastfeeding in the
community are welcome and encouraged to attend. Meetings are baby and toddler friendly.
Daisy C.H.A.I.N. Creating Healthy Alliances In New-Mothering's “Action for Public Breastfeeding
Awareness” will continue each month on the days the Breastfeeding Coalition of Lane County meets. To learn
