SPOTLIGHT ON BRAZILIAN DANCE at Atrium School's International Dance
Festival for Children. Saturday February 12, 2:00 - 4:00pm! The
Atrium School is located at 552 Main Street, Watertown, MA 02472; tel.
617-923-4156. The Group Capoeira Camara Angola, an Afro-Brazilian
martial arts dance troupe, located in Cambridge, will perform on
Saturday February 12th at Atrium School's International Dance
Festival for Children.
The Group Capoeira Camara Angola was founded and is directed by Mestre
Deraldo Ferreira, one of the first capoeiristas to bring the art form
to North America. He has almost 30 years of experience in Capoeira and
samba drumming, musical composition and choreography. Deraldo has
taught children, teens and adults in his own academy in his hometown of
Sao Paulo, Brazil and for the past 18 years throughout New England. In
addition to founding and directing the Brazilian Cultural Center of New
England, which hosts the Group Capoeira Camara Angola, Deraldo
currently teaches classes and workshops at Hampshire College, Amherst
College, Smith College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and The
Dance Complex in Cambridge.
The Brazilian dance troupe is one of FIVE international dance groups
performing on Saturday, February 12th, from 2:00 - 4:00pm, in the
Atrium School auditorium. Indian, Greek, Chinese, and Lithuanian
dancers will also perform.
The dancers will dance from 2:00 - 3:00pm, and then hold interactive
dance workshops for children from 3:00 - 4:00pm. International food
will be sold. Admission is $6.00 per person, $20 maximum per family.
